That's a pretty old-school receiver.

I bought a Harman/Kardon 3485 a while ago. I have my turntable hooked up to it, and I really enjoy it. I guess H/K's latest version is the 3490. I haven't checked the 90's out, yet, but they're probably about the same as the one I've got.

Another one that I hear good things about is the Denon DRA 397. A couple of audio guys I know use that one.

If you've got the money to spare, Rotel products are awesome! They're sort of a "boutique" brand, and it's sort of like comparing a MIA Fender (H/K, Denon) to a Sadowsky or something along those lines.

On the other hand, if you're looking for "old school," and actual vintage pieces, Marantz is where I'd look.

One a more serious note, I know we have a chrome JVC KDV-100 (radio + cassette) lying around, along with its Realistic 14-band stereo EQ.

I don't know if this fits your definition of old-school, but if it does, I'd be happy to help.

We have a NAD 7225PE which has a dedicated phono input. The thing sounded great driving a Boston sound system when I was a child

It's not tube driven, unfortunately.

I have two Pioneer SX-3700 receivers, with the cool blue fluoroluminescent meters. They show up often for under $100on evilbay.

McIntosh and Phase Linear were two popular Hi-Fi, Tube amp makers in the 70's. I wanted a Phase Linear system and was saving for one, but the USAF decided to relocate me to Turkey.
