Well, it would appear more people watch football but more people play basketball.

Pro baseball sells the most tickets of the pro sports, but they also play the most games by far.

Football. Even people that don't like are somehow impacted by it.

fried food, big couches, cheap beer, football ( no soccer) , basketball , baseball are all popular, difference is the ticket price, altough all they are dead boring, unless you like 200 minutes of sponsorship commercials

NFL and NCAA football has surpassed baseball as America's game. Personally I like the EPL and NFL equally. I am somewhat interested in the NHL, and could care less about the rest.

Yep. I could list the reasons why I think baseball's been passed up, but that's probably a different and more contentious thread. College hoops is next on the list for me followed by the NBA. I don't care much about baseball these days--and not at all about hockey beyond seeing a game in person once in a great while.

NFL and college ball are number one by a wide margin. College sports is also very popular in way that is foreign to just about any other country I know of. College football and basketball takes the place of professional sports in those states that do not have pro teams. Heck, even college baseball is big in some places like South Carolina where the Gamecocks have won the College World Series two years in a row.

Although baseball is still a huge spectator sport, it has more a regional appeal now. It is huge in the St. Louis area since the Cardinals have a winning tradition second only to the Yankees, and the NE corridor is also a hotbed since it has the Yankees and Red Sox.

Finally, don't sleep on NASCAR, it is huge among working class whites, especially in the South and Midwest.Speaking of automotive racing, I would love to get more into Formula 1, that and motorcycle roadracing strike me as very pure forms of racing.

Yeah, in small towns like Knoxville it may be bigger, but no way when it comes to cities with NFL teams. Don't get me wrong....Texas and Texas A&M have a huge following here, but here in Houston everyone is a larger NFL fan, no matter how much the Texans stink.

Knoxville isn't that small, and we're only two and a half hours away from the Titans in Nashville. It doesn't matter what city you're from, or even state, because around here it's all about SEC football.

You're just bitter that we're the real UT

College football is king even in Nashville. The Titans have a huge following here, but it seems that more people have college loyalties than pro ones, or at least the college ties run deeper.

Right around Nashville, football and hockey are the most popular. Outside of the city, motorsports in general have a large following.

Like most have said here, Football is king though I personally don't get into NCAA gridiron much since the championship is decided so arbitrarily. College baseball is my favorite tournament of the year every year and nothing would please me more than if the NBA didn't play next season.

football, imo it's more competitive and having less games makes it more special

^ This.

The one thing I've always liked about the NFL vs the other leagues is that you don't have the 80+ games like you do in the NFL and NBA, or the 160+ in baseball, which adds so much more emphasis and excitement to each individual game.
