Well, after 5 years I need to sell my computer to buy a laptop. I bought it in 2006 because all i wanted to do then was play WoW and I needed a better computer so I purchased the Alienware Area-51 desktop for around $1,100. Now I'm going into my Sophomore year of college and I don't even ouch video games so I thought it would be wise to sell this and buy a laptop.
It's a 2006 Alienware Area-51.
NVIDIA GeForce 9800gt Graphic Card
3.00 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (Shut up, I know it's garbage but all I could afford in 2006.)
2 Gigs of RAM upgraded to 4 Gigs.
250g Hard drive
It comes with..
2 Monitors, both hooked up side-by-side. a Sceptre X22hg-NAGA and a Samsung SynMaster 225BW.(Both were free ^-^)
Logitech 5.1 Surround Sound.
Keyboard and mouse.
I'm hoping to get enough to only have to actually come out of pocket a little bit for a laptop, all help is appreciated.
Thanks!
-Doug

| | | | I buy better speced towers for the school for about 400$ these days.
But you have monitors also, I'd say you could probably get about 200 for it.
It's still a decent pc, more than any typical user would need, trouble is convincing them that.
Personally I'd keep it, load linux on it and do your normal Internet stuff on it until it dies in 4 years. then just shell out 200$ on a netbook if you absolutely need a laptop.

If you keep it, it'll still perform well for many years to come. Since you want a laptop, maybe invest in a decent laptop, and use your desktop for recording/backup.
Believe it or not, your processor isn't all that bad haha I still have usable computers with Centrino processors.
EDIT: Also, lately, I have been toying with using old desktops as NAS for my house. Really neat and easy way of accessing files from multiple stations.

As is it's not worth much. |

| | | | "ev·o·lute - In the differential geometry of curves, the evolute of a curve is the locus of all its centers of curvature. Equivalently, it is the envelope of the normals to a curve."
I admit I was confused how this applied to computer processors but as far as I can tell computers work on equal parts faith, science, and voodoo so I just went with it.
