What's the point?

Honestly. The economy is in the crapper right now and it's almost as if these major corporations are making jokes out of it. I'm unemployed so I'm actively searching for a job. Any job. Burger King had a Now Hiring sign up, even an ad for it. I was even told by a friend that they were hiring. So, likewise, I go up there to get an application. I looked nice going in just for an application, a friend there even put in a decent word for me. I filled out the application, turned it in and waited.

Now when I turn in an application I call the company back about 3 or 4 days later so they know I'm putting myself out there and that I'm ready to work. So I'm calling back multiple stores and I get to Burger King. I call them back and the manager picks up the phone and I ask if they've reviewed my application. The manager's reply is, and this is verbatim, 'I'm just taking applications now, I'm not really hiring anyone.'

What? Seriously, what's the point of that? Hiring signs, people getting word of it and telling you this place is hiring but you're not really hiring? I've been out of the job for about 2 1/2 months now and there are people who've been out there longer but these companies have the balls to do that kind of crap? And they wonder why they are targeted for attacks?

Honestly though, just because your job sucks or doesn't pay that well, at least you're getting paid. If you got to play a joke to feel better, do it on an employee or someone making lots of money. We unemployed people are actually struggling and this kind of crap is a waste of our time and our efforts and if this kind of stuff keeps happening it won't be long before some people feel it's time for desperate measures and crime rate starts climbing up.

when i was in high school i put in an application at Food Lion, and they said they weren't hiring now, just taking applications. like 3 weeks later my buddy put in an application and got a job. so i just said F*** it, and spent all my high school career just playing bass. join the coast guard.

I hear you, that's freaking ridiculous.. but they may just be building up a list of folks to contact when they do need someone. Turnover in places like that is very high. They may not be hiring at the moment but rest assured they will be soon.

In regards to employment - try a temp agency maybe?
In my area at least there's usually work of some sort or another to be found there.
