I was browsing a map today zoomed in fairly tight, it was of the Victoria, BC area in Canada. As I moved around on the map, I got way up north and found the border of the USA and Canada. I zoomed out and realized I was at Alaska.
What is the point of the USA having Alaska way up there? Why can't the USA trade all of that land in and get some Canadian land so the line across the top of the USA is straight? Like where Minnesota is and the line gets jagged, just carry it on straight east all the way out to St. Johns.

He tried to buy British Columbia and instead got Alaska for a steal. People thought it was a dumb idea back then as well.
Like was said above though, definitely a big strategic value.
