Where to buy a Men's pea coat?

Sign in to disble this ad
I really need to buy one of these to look decent with a suit and tie or dressier clothes... looking for a mid-thigh length one.

Where would you suggest getting one?

Apologies to the OP for doing the "me too" thing, but I happen to be looking for something similar at the moment.

I've been scanning for one, too. I think what you want is not a pea coat - which is informal and double-breasted - but a dress overcoat, which is designed to have room for a suit jacket underneath.

Penney's has them on sale - Macy's, too. If you have a Dillard's nearby, their after-Christmas sales are usually really good. Kohl's might also be a good place to check.

Sportsmans Guide carries that sort of thing. But a google search will probably get you a whole bunch of possibilities.

I had a great one that got stolen at a gig in Philly...

I would think you'd be able to find a pea coat at any army/navy surplus store. An overcoat would be found more likely at a department or menswear store.

That's Sportsman's Guide coat is a good example - it's a nice coat, but probably not designed to go over a suit coat. You need room for that coat underneath.

Here's an example - it's called a Top Coat - from Penney's
http://www3.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx...06|53014|53058

It's a bit longer than you mentioned, but I've heard the shorter ones referred to as "Car Coats."

Here's a Penney's Car Coat:

http://www3.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx...06|53014|53058

Note this text on that product listing: *Coats are proportioned to fit over sweaters or suit coats. Order your regular coat size.

Also a 3/4 length topcoat is available:

Try Joseph A. Banks. Online, catalogue, or stores. They have a 3/4 length topcoat that may be exactly what you're looking for.

I haven't owned a pea coat in close to 30 years, but I went through 3 or 4 as a teenager, and every one of those I bought at an Army/Navy Surplus Store.

www.josabank.com

Joseph is abbreviated and no "s" on "Bank". Can be a bit confusing with that abbreviation you don't see everyday. (And I have their site bookmarked )

I got mine at Old Navy a little later in the season a few years ago. It was like 35 bucks.

+1, the military surplus store here has an entire section for them in all sized and colors.
