Where did "the hockey music" come from?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm a really big hockey fan, (Pens fan, respectively,) and I always wonder where the different themes most arena organ players came from?

It's of course hard to describe them, and I couldn't really find any mp3s online...but they're the different, short little motifs played during games, hopefully you know what I'm talking about; you've heard them.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

This:

So there I was, over in Paris
Eating wine and drinking cheese
And this guy comes up to me and he says
“ Where are you from?”
Well, I says “Yeah, I’m from Canada”
And he says “Zoot Allure, mon Dieu, you are from Canada? Do you play hockey?”
And I says “Do I play hockey?

Well, I play Air hockey, Ball hockey, Barn Hockey, Bubble Hockey, Field hockey,
Floor hockey, Ice hockey, Kitchen hockey, Road hockey,Roller hockey, Table hockey, Twist hockey
And I play hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey,
hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey all the time!
Take shots!

So there I was way out in California
And this guy comes up to me and he says
“ Where are you from dude?”
Well, I says “Yeah, I’m from Canada”
And he says "Wow! Where are you from dude?”
And I says "Look I'm from Canada"
And he says “Wow. If you’re from Canada? Do you like, play hockey?”
And I says “Do I play hockey?

Well, I play Air hockey, Ball hockey, Barn Hockey, Bubble Hockey, Field hockey,
Floor hockey, Ice hockey, Kitchen hockey, Road hockey,Roller hockey, Table hockey, Twist hockey
And I play hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey,
hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey all the time!
Take shots!

So there I was way down under in Australia
And this guy comes up to me and he says
“ Where are you from?”
Well, I says “Yeah, I’m from Canada”
And he says “Do right, honey child. If you’re from Canada? Do you play hockey?”
And I says “Do I play hockey?

Well, I play Air hockey, Ball hockey, Barn Hockey, Bubble Hockey, Field hockey,
Floor hockey, Ice hockey, Kitchen hockey, Road hockey,Roller hockey, Table hockey, Twist hockey
And I play hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey,
hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey all the time!
Take shots!

He shoots. He scores!

Who cares about the organ? I was watching the game last night. The guy that does recorded songs can really pull out the old school metal. There were songs on there I forgot all about. The most surprising was probably the one from the movie Rock Star.

I have no idea where the cheesy organ riffs originated. But I grew up in Johnstown, PA watching the Johnstown Jets (a minor league team). They played in the War Memorial Arena, which is the arena where they filmed "Slap Shot" with Paul Newman. (Remember the Charlestown Chiefs and the Hanson brothers?!)

One thing that I thought was clever way back then was when the refs would make a bad call. The organist would break out with the "Three Blind Mice" riff. (Back then they only used one referee and two linesmen.)

Brewmeister Smith von Sydow of Elsinore Brewery created the best hockey riff of all time. When paired with a sinister drug it causes players to skate and destroy.

I LOVE the music they play in the United Center during BH games. Pens music is alright....mostly a mix of popular stuff from 10 years ago though.
