Where do you guys buy vinyl?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am looking at starting to buy some new releases on vinyl and I have googled around a bit and I haven't been able to find a place that has a large selection of new releases on vinyl. So, where do you guys buy yours?

depends on the release. usually the band im looking for will link it from their website, otherwise vinyl collective has been pretty good. failing that there's a few good record stores in boston.

here's the link: http://stores.channeladvisor.com/vinylhome/

The local BestBuy has a few new releases on vinyl and many old favorites on vinyl. This is a link to info about the BestBuy in your area, you can call them and see what they have as to not waste time.

I don't know how widespread this is, but I heard on local news that smaller mom and pop type shops are getting vinyl releases to help boost their business. I'm guessing that the bigger stores (at least in our area) are not getting the vinyl releases.

I get about 60% at local records store (which, though still rare are pretty easy to get to in B-more). The rest is split between ordering from distros, buying at shows and flea markets.

IME distros doing really good vinyl tend to be very genre specific, so it tends to be easiest to go through band sites/myspazz direct for artists you like and know have stuff recently out and getting an idea of the distros from there.

I like these people

Saw Her Ghost records - Metal
Feast Of Tentacles - Doom/Sludge
Chrome Peeler - Cover quite a few metal and punk sub-genres
Conspiracy Records - European, not sure if they ship to Canada but my first stop for Isis and the like
Important Records - Doom, Electronica, Post-Rock
Robotic Empire - Again, lots of good limited Isis and Torche kinda stuff. US based so probably a safer bet than Conspiracy.

None of this may be to your taste though, so unfortunately the only solution is to get on myspazz, find artists you like, and research who actually distributes the vinyl from there. Hopefully my little list will help somebody discover some great music...

I usually buy directly from the label because it's usually the cheapest option. But if I want to but stuff from a lot of different labels at once then I usually buy from Vinyl Collective. They're really nice people and they're having a sale right now. Distros are also a really good place to buy records from. No Idea has a really big distro. And the best thing about buying from No Idea is you can get a copy of Reinventing Axl Rose. Everybody knows your not cool until you have a copy of Reinventing Axl Rose.

+1. Ding. The one in Berkley, AND the one in LA. I try to avoid that place. I've never once walked out of there without successfully buying about 150 bucks worth of music.

Thanks for the help guys. There aren't really any stores around here that sell vinyl, much less anything that I would listen to. All the music stores blow, unless I go to Toronto, but I am not there very often.

I go to a lot of record fairs, constantly scour ebay and use a fairly large number of various distros and labels, between them, I've spent a lot of cash on my vinyl
