Where to Stay on Long Island, Near Westbury?

Sign in to disble this ad
Have a wedding to attend in August. Ceremony will be held at the NY Institute of Technology, Old Westbury NY. Looking around for a hotel in the area and would appreciate a little help from some of you that might know the area.

Hicksville, Hempstead, or Oyster Bay areas? Where are the rail lines located? Looking to spend under $200 a night but don't want to take a hotel.com special that places us in not such a good spot.

thanks - richard

Unfortunately, there's no trains near NYIT Old Westbury - that's kind of a dead zone for public transportation. So you'd definitely want to rent a car when you're here.

Don't stay in Hempstead unless you like getting mugged. My old apartment in Hempstead had a small hole in one of the windows from stray gunfire. Old Westbury itself is very lovely, though. In fact, the whole area around it is very nice. It's the rich area of LI - and the setting for "The Great Gatsby." The exterior shot of Wayne Manor from "Batman Forever" isn't too far away, to give you an idea of the area. But, south of Stewart Ave., there's a crack in the road, and it literally turns from wooded suburban area to ghetto. It's quite funny, actually, how quick it is.

If you want, PM me a list of potential hotels, and I'll let you know what the area is like.

There is a motel kind of place that is attached to an indian restraunt not far from there in Jerico I believe. Not sure about the whole night prices but 4 hours is about $50, that includes mirrors on the ceiling.
