I see all these threads around TB about the economy crashing and everyone making huge changes... is anyone else living life as normal? I mean we've maintained the same standard of life, if not had an increase over the past few years. I can sympathize for those who are hurting (I know certain industries are a lot more affected by the economy than others), but I would feel comforted to know that some more people are at least maintaining the status quo....
Anyone?

I guess there are 2 reasons for that. 1. I like the idea of "local" production and sustainability. I hope to eventually be able to power my home without the elctric company(although technology will need to help me and it would need to be a well built home and our life style would have to change). 2. does not weigh so heavily in my thought process. If the economy crashes and there is an extreme food shortage(as predicted by some) I will still have some food.

It also helps that I'm one of the only ones left in the US who didn't buy a home and/or pull equity from one.
I'd prefer my 401K would continue to go up, but that's a long term investment.
I will survive, like the mighty cockroach I am.

| | | I am eating well ,I have a sturdy house , I drive a car that is paid for. I have zero consumer debt . I have a house payment and the other necessary bills .That's it! It took me a long time to get out of consumer debt and I'll never do it again.
I am living as normal through this .
I have sympathy for those who are suffering financially through no real fault of their own right now . I 've been there and it sucks.
My 401 and other pension plan is in the toilet right now.
I am losing money in them and it is sickening.
But on the bright side I have at least 17 years until I can use that money so unless we have a full blown depression I'll make it back plus a lot more. |

I was spending roughly $200.00 a month on gas (we have to drive roughly 100 miles round trip to work each day) now i'm spending roughly $250.00 this has made me buy less junk and make less trips into town for crap....but other than that we are about the same....

I've noticed some subtle fluctuations in my wages, I've noticed some subtle fluctuations in the prices of things in work. general newsagent prices are a tad steep, but for what I'm buying, it's nothing major.
only big difference for me is driving lessons, went up by £2 (4$) an hour in the last month, but I can understand that given what petrol is costing these days.

I just bought a motorcycle, almost paid off already, my car will be paid off by the end of the summer and my student debt will be paid off by this time next year. Not to mention that I am leaving for a three week trip to Africa on Thursday, going to Mexico for two weeks in November and again next March. Did I mention that my boss has jobs lined up through next September? No hurting here. Oh I might also be going back to school in the fall part time, so I can work and pay for all of it.
