It's allergy season here in the Mid-Atlantic region and I have to be honest when I say that this is by far the worst I have ever seen. Everyone in my family has either been sick multiple times over the past two months, or at the very least, have been suffering from the high pollen count. I made an appointment for my youngest son to see an allergist and every single one in my area is booked for weeks in advance due to the large volume of folks experiencing this... anyone else seeing this or is it just in my area?

I've been trying a natural remedy: take a teaspoon of local honey every morning with breakfast. The honey has pollen in it, and your body builds up a natural immunity. I've been doing it since March and there's been a notciable reduction in symptoms compared to this time last year.
I usually don't get hit hard until mid-June, so the 'proper' results will make themselves known then!
As far as drugs go, Lotaradine does nothing for me, Ceterezine Hydrochloride provides a little relief. I haven't tried any of the others. Here's hoping I don't need to take anything other than honey this summer!

The tail-end of 2010 I got flu for 6 weeks, and in March I got another flu type thing for another month, I don't know what's going on there, I've never had anything that compares previously, seems to be some virulent off-shoots of flu around.
I won't underestimate hayfever again that much I do know, I thought it was may be the equivalent of a bad cold but nay, it's got much more to offer than that

During the day, the fever would be gone, he'd be eating normally, playing - essentially he'd appear well in every way. Come nighttime, the fevers and all other icky flu symptoms would come back. I've never seen one like that before.

I thought it may just be something I personally picked up somehow but there seems to be a lot of it about?

One of those people I guess, but the homeopath gave him something to take, charged him like 50 quid, and when he asked what to do if it didnt work, the guy said 'take antihistamines'.
it didnt work. |

| | | | Not allergies but my chronic sinusitis has been going nuts, nothing like bloody half dried ick in the back of your throat all day.
Oh well more humidifier and more neti.
I also suggest trying a neti pot or the squeeze bottle one works wonders.
ABout 10$ for a 2 - 3 month supply do it when you wake up and an hour before bedtime.

So here's the question: which are folks finding to be more effective, Claritin-D or regular Claritin?

Here in my house we've tried Allegra, Claritin, and a few others but none of them have been fully effective. I would say go for the D though at the very least because if you don't open the sinuses you end up with a sinus infection. Both my son and I are suffering from this very thing at the moment.

| | Yeah, I've got the moves like Jagger. | | Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: G.R. MI | | | Oh MAN! When I was a kid, I used to have the worst spring time allergies! I was very allergic to Grass, Trees, Mold....... And a bunch of other stuff. The worst part was when my father would wake me up at 7:00am on a Saturday morning and make me go mow the yard. I'd be all itchy and plugged up for the rest of the day.
I mostly grew out of it. I took shots for years, (they seem to help) and I think my forced exposure to the grass mold and trees visa vie the lawn mower may have helped some. (GOD! That was miserable!)
These days I have very limited nasal symptoms, but my eyes will puff up and almost swell shut occasionally. I don't know what kind of mold is growing in my guitards basement, but when I woke up on Wednesday after Tuesdays practice my wife asked me what happened to my eye. It was itchy, but I didn't think much of it. It was puffy as hell, and looked bruised! It's getting better.......

I also had the allergy sensitivity shots for years when I was younger. It was every week, then cut down to every two weeks. It really sucked but I'd do it again in a heartbeat if it meant relief!

Ragweed and Goldenrod make stuff ooze out of places that don't usually ooze.
Years ago, when his daughter was maybe 6 or 7 years old, he was napping on the couch in the afternoon and she came inside with a nice big bouquet of beautiful golden flowers for him. He was napping, so she put them on his chest, real close to his face.
He woke up, saw what must have looked like a bushel of Goldenrod on his chest and FREAKED OUT!!!
I don't know if he had a violent allergic reaction (His wife was the one that told me the story) but he scared the livin crap out of his kid!
Ahhhhhhhh..... Good times.
