Who is into pro wrestling?

Sign in to disble this ad
So my wife, band mates, and I are MAJOR wrestling fans. She and our guitarist are licensed wrestlers. We dig it all from the Indys to Big Leagues. I'm just curious how many folks on this board dig wrestling?

Who are some of your favorites that are still in action?

As of right now Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) & Evan Bourne (Matt Sydal) - I have followed their careers for years and am glad to see them do so well. Same goes for Dolph Ziggler, Guys like this will carry WWE for a long time.

Then you got guys like Samoa Joe, Desmond Wolf (Nigel Mcguiness) and AJ Styles... Love all those guys in ring ability, although, I doubt they will ever make it out of TNA / ROH / Indy Circuits again.

None of the guys now, but I heard The Rock was hosting Wrestlemania.

I go back and forth with how much I follow TNA and WWE. But I am a fan, and actually prefer it to boxing and MMA.

Used to love it when I was wee, Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Yokozuna etc etc.

These days, not so much. I know a fair few people who are really into it, and are in the SWE and SWA as they are over here.

Just not the sport for me.

Pro "wrestling" isn't a sport. It's a show.

I wish they wouldn't even use the word "wrestling"; leave it for the real wrestlers.

My fiancee loves wrestling. If she saw this she'd go on a rant. "Pro" wrestling is much more a physical feat than it appears to the average viewer. Your argument is akin to saying that "porn isnt real sex". Youre right in a way, that everythign is staged, and its not really a "sport" but it most certainly is real. You can't fake being bodyslammed through a folding table. Sure, the table is breakable, but being lifted and slammed through it is 100% real, and it hurts.

Oh, and "Dey durk his jerb!"

The fakery is indeed real. Like a movie set, it's made of real, non-imaginary materials, but they're made up to look like something else.

So what you are saying is that all the people on the ER set (or any medical show) are real doctors because they can act like one?

These people that act in CSI know how to go in and investigate and clean a crime scene and process evidence?

Not a good example.

I will hide behind a wall because I don't watch wrestling entertainment, just pointing a flaw in the theory.

I'd watch it more if it weren't for the lack of quality refereeing. I've seen so many matches where blatant misconduct has occurred and the referee was completely oblivious to it. It really ruins the match for everyone.

I think that they should adopt an instant replay approach like professional football has. That'd clean things up considerably.

Uh. You know it's staged right, all of it?

It's soap opera for men, instead of love and drama it's violence and drama.

But I will add they players involved do have athletic abilities.

Not into it now, but I loved WWF in the 70's when they had matches in high school gyms, before it got huge. Midnight on channel 9.

All of you haters are pencil-necked geeks!

Why would you stage a competition? Seems silly.

Another thing: managers interfering with matches. Do they have to be ringside? It seems like half of the wrestlers don't need managers at ringside, and it's clearly an overwhelming temptation to get involved. Believe me, I've seen a few matches where it occurred, really stole the match from the better athlete... again, instant replay would really help out on cleaning this stuff up.

I think the biggest failure is the supply supervisor. You'd think with a high flying wrestling match going on just a few feet away, he'd keep a better tab on where the excess folding chairs and tables were located. To leave those around so close to a heated athletic event seems negligent at best. If that was my industry that guy would have lost his job years ago, but guess what? it's still happening!!!

I loved it when I was a kid. Watched it for comedy in high school when the Rock and Stone Cold and others were on and they ripped on each other more than anything.

Now I have grown up and would rather never hear anyone talk and simply really beat the crap out of each other in a trained athelete kind of way.

Any MMA, Hockey, Football, Baseball. No more comedy sports for this guy.

I loved the AWA out of Minnesota in the late 70s and early 80s. I lost interest when WWF (WWE) put everyone out of business by the early 90s. While it's always been a show, the suspension of belief was hard to do once Vince made it huge. I did like it again once Bret Hart made his run in the mid 90s, but slowly lost interest in the Attitude era.

I did see a ton of indy shows around Minnesota over the years and have helped out in various capacities. Lots of work but fun and I have a lot of respect for the guys who can do it well.
