Who should win the Heisman?

I could easily be a homer and root for Tebow, but I'll think about for a little while. Make your case.

This year, I take Timmy. Why not? He plays on the best team in the country. Wait...I know why not, he doesn't have the flashy stats people are looking for. No worries, Tebow is still a great college QB.

I think McCoy should win it.

Eh, I'm biased. Boomer.

Re: Flashy stats. What the heck else are you looking for when comparing potential Heisman winners? Of course you should compare stats.

Yes, but there's a rumor going around that they don't play strong defense in the Big 12.

The award goes to "the most outstanding player in college football", not the guy with the flashiest stats.

Stats make a good comparison tool for sure, but that should only be a starting point if you ask me.

Look at past history--the award rarely goes to the QB or running back with the absolute most yards for the season in the nation.

I've heard that line several times before. Not buying it.

There are other stats other than just raw yards to use when comparing candidates. I fail to see how one can legitmately and objectively compare without relying upon those stats. Then again, I'm an anal retentive math nerd type. I get off on fine points of logic and don't go for touchy-feely arguments much.

Just so I am not misunderstood here, while I completely recognize that I am probably not unbiased, I'm not trying to really argue one over another here. The award will go to whoever it goes to and that won't change each players performance.

lol the big12 defense debate will follow all football threads!

Some of you want to pretend it's only us "SEC fanboys" that argue the big12 has no defense... but if you open your eyes and ears, you'll see this debate all over the national tv, radio shows, internet blogs, and sports articles written all over the country.

"The big 12 has no defense, that's why their offenses look so awesome..."
vs.
"The big 12 offenses are awesome, that's why the defenses look so bad..."

It's a never ending cycle of college football debate. gotta love it.

You can't go by just stats though, the pass-happy spread offenses used by all the big12 teams pads the quarterbacks' stats. Not to say they aren't awesome quarterbacks, but it should be considered when choosing the Heisman winner. In reality, if Florida wins, Tebow will get it, and if Oklahoma wins, Bradford will get it.

The heisman is given out 3 weeks before the NC game - I doubt that game will have any effect.

My vote goes to Tebow. He can run, he can pass, and his leadership qualities are top-notch.

Tim Tebow. A phenomenal player and leader. If they win the NC, his speech after the Ole Miss loss will go down in history.

while i agree with the general sentiment that the argument will always exist, i disagree with your idea that any offense can 'pad stats'

the players have to play for any offense i've ever seen to work, produce yardage and gain touchdowns--if there's a set that plays itself, i'm sure there's a coach who'd have used it by now
