Home for another few days until I go back to school, and making some extra cash at the Athletic Club I worked at in high school.
So I stand here listening to the garbage they play, and it seems that every group with a male singer is attempting to sound like a 13 year old girl.
I remember when I was in middle school. early 00's, the "emo" movement was really in full swing, and there were tons of bands coming out whose singers tried as hard as they could to sound like a castrate. As far as I can tell, however, that movement is about over with.
It seems that ever since the whole emo thing happened that even your mainstream rock bands coming out have this whiny, girlish singing going on. And if it's not severe, they usually have just a hint of girly whining in their vocals.
Has anyone else noticed this trend? And if so, have you heard anyone pinpoint where it started?

Definitely did not start the thing, but they where absolutely a role model for a lot of the last ten years boybands poppin up..

I wish I could've at least been ALIVE in the golden age of rock and roll...
Oh well, I'm sure the trends will break eventually and something decent will take over.

Oh well, I'm sure the trends will break eventually and something decent will take over. | I wasn't alive for the golden age, but the early 90s did kick some ass in the rock and roll area. Soundgarden,pearl jam,alice in chains,STP...so many good bands, singing like dudes.

I've heard some of the music though. I like some bands that get lumped into the "emo" category like My Chemical Romance (say what you want about them but The Black Parade was a good catchy album) and Death Cab For Cutie (more Indie than emo if you ask me) but the majority that I've head is crap. Most of them sound like some crappy The Cure rip-offs. But it is fun being in a pit at a concert with emo kids. They're so frail that all you have to do is stand in one spot and let them run into you and they fall over (true story too I might add).

Don't scowl at me... | Haha, as much as I love Geddy I'd have to agree. The first time I heard Rush I thought they had a female singer. Rush vocals are an acquired taste for sure.
Oh and I saw that Death Cab for Cutie band a few months ago. They opened up for Neil Young, and sounded totally different than I thought they would. Still a little hint of whine in their vocals, but overall not a bad band.
