Who is still driving trucks/SUV's?

Sign in to disble this ad
Now when I say trucks/SUV's, I mean Full-size. With the V8's and all that. Despite current gas prices, I'm still holding out and my Bronco is still my daily driver. Sure, it hurts when I have to fill it up empty and it ends up running ~$125 (33 gallon tank), but I don't do too much pointless driving around and I can afford it. Never letting it get too empty is also key. I get about 14 city and usually 16, MAYBE up to 18 on a good day highway.

The reason I still drive my truck is the love I have for it. I simply cannot drive a small car and be happy. I love the power of a truck with a V8 engine, feeling the low end torque you'll never experience in a small car. I love being able to see the big hood infront of me, instead of the small cars where you don't even see much of it. To me it's not a status symbol but just something I like, something I grew up around. It is also a gearheads dream. Not many vehicles around anymore that are still relatively fun and easy to work on, like my truck is. I enjoy doing all it's work it needs on it myself. At some point though I guess, if gas continues to climb higher, I will have to give up and retire my truck from DD status to a back up, but for now I am gonna keep on going.

I just want to see if there are any others out there like me who like to drive their trucks still.

V6 Pathfinder here. Had I known when I bought it last year that gas was going to go through the roof I would have looked for something more economical.

Our E-350 van gets about 15 city 18 highway. Still has better traction and better braking than our 4x4 blazer did. The studded tires help though.

I just traded in a 98 Chevy Silverado for a 6 banger tacoma. Tacoma is great, the the Chevy had a lot going for it too. Had a nice fullsize Bronco before that.

The V8 hit max torque at only 2800 rpm, while the six has to be wound up to 3600 rpm to hit the curve. 2800 is much nicer for the mud!

Truck is about 30% smaller, but gas mileage is 30% better.

Don't be anxious to trade in that Bronco - you could never make up the difference in gas cost alone!

Right here dude! I drive my Dodge Ram to work and back everyday, 56 miles round trip. I really like my pickup, and I will always own a pickup. Like you, I grew up around pickups, and I have always owned one.

We use my wifes Lancer for running around town and such, but it is not my preferred mode of transportation.

I have a full size Chevy PUP. I kind of need it to haul equipment, but I'd rather spend $50.00 a week to drive it back and forth to work than have yet another car payment. Maybe by the time I'm ready for a new vehicle they'll be running on something other than petroleum??

I have a 400HP Dodge Dakota as my toy and I drive a Dodge Ram 2500 4x4/Cummins Diesel as my daily driver. I feel 'ya 'bro.

my 1996 isuzu rodeo is what i use. handed down from my dad, so there was no way i was gonna sell it considering i almost literally grew up in this truck. plus, i've put it way too much time and money for modifications to sell it for something economical (not to mention my rig wouldn't fit in a sedan). i figure i get about 16mpg city, 19-20mpg highway (22 gal tank), and i should easily get 18 and 22 when i find some time to do a tune-up.

I'm driving a mid-size SUV, my trusty '99 Chevy Blazer. It still gets 15-16 MPG in town, 19-20 MPG at 75 MPH on the freeway, and it's paid for.

When the vehicle is paid for, you can spend more on gas and not worry about it.

I sold my 10-12 MPG '93 Ford F-150 with the 352 V-8 back in 2002. Great pickup, super seats, didn't need it.

In the grand scheme of things the xterra doesnt get terrible gas mileage, neither is it a full size SUV. I love mine. I only drive 14 miles round trip to work though. Ill be laughing once winter hits again and everyone has their 300 pound 50 mile to the gallon cars. I dont care how good your gas mileage is if you cant leave your garage on a rough day.

My mom bought a new car around the time I got my license and I was the proud owner of a V8 96 Explorer..... but not proud for long. This thing is a serious white elephant, eating me out of just about everything I have.

I'm still driving a Jeep Wrangler. No, it's not fullsize and it doesn't have a v8... but I do get all the fun of 15MPG without the hassle of great acceleration nor the ability to haul stuff.

I have a 97 Nissan Pathfinder with 235000 on it. NO PAYMENTS! I figure gas would have to get to about 10$ a gallon to offset no payments and far cheaper car insurance. I'm in sales and have to haul around a lot of samples. I have a suspicion my next vehicle will be a used Outback or Element ( I have to have AWD in my territory).
