I went out with my wife and family. At a restaurant,
I'm good for knocking down 3 tall ones, and having an appetizer, burger and fries. Yesterday, I had 0 beers, seltzer instead, no appetizer, and a salad with a little grilled chicken.
If I could just repeat my behavior of this last week for the next six months, I can make a dent in my weight.
A frequent diet buster of mine is - beer. I like it very much.
Rather than try to reduce intake this time, I think I'm going to try to hang onto - drinking no beer at all. I think it's the only way these days for me to stay on the diet.

I save my beers for special occasions. I find myself drinking better beers, less often. Save a bunch of money too!

I can get a good buzz on 2 or 3 beers, rather than having to knock back a 12er of swill.

My weakness is scotch, so waiting for the weekends is much more economical than replacing a bottle every two days.

I'll be happy if the week 2 number is - 2.
I'm getting a lot out of loseit.com. Definitely recommended.
I really need to track and budget my eating, and it makes it easy - and sorta fun - to do so.

Like SBassman, I'm hoping that things keep up.
First test is Wednesday when my MBA classes start back up. These days I leave the house at 7AM and don't get home until 10PM. If I can keep going without the Red Bull or sodas, I'll be pleased.
Real test is Friday when I fly to St. Louis and take to the road for the first time since starting this lifestyle change. If I can get it to stick while I'm traveling, everything will turn out ok.

My wife and I bought a juicer last year. We feed it tons of fresh vegetables (kale, spinach, tomatoes, carrots, etc) and fresh fruit (apples, pears, blackberries, etc) and make juice. We're both doing the fast. Have been since new years day. We haven't eaten any solid food at all since new years eve. We each get 64 ounces of juice every day, plus all the water we can drink. Herbal tea is allowed, so is decaf coffee. Green tea is allowed sparingly. We get all the required vitamins and nutrients through the veggies and fruits. (the juice btw is about 80% veg and 20% fruit). Plus we both take lots of vitamins...I take 11 every morning. To get our protein fix, we blend a 1/4 cup of chia seed into the juice.
The weight is literally falling off of both of us. My wife lost 12 lbs in 5 days. I've gone from pants that are too small, to pants that fit (I don't do the scale, just judge by how I look/feel and how clothes fit).
It sounds hard, and for the first day or so, it was pretty tough-I won't lie. But by about the third day, I was fine. When I do get really hungry, I drink water. I have a 64 oz bottle of juice that I sip throughout the day. Sometimes for flavor I'll add a little lemon to my water.
Again...weight is literally falling off of me. In addition, the doctors love this diet because it's plant based. |

Already reached my long term comfort weight but you know (at least I don't look like a pear anymore lol!). Can never hurt to try...

| | Well, Ahoy Paloi | | Join Date: Sep 2009 Location: Cape Cod, MA | | | I didn't realize how much I had gained until I had my physical today with my doctor. I am 5-11 and weighed in at 189! I couldn't believe it; last time I checked I was 178-181 ish. So, after I ran 4 miles on treadmill and have started the task of losing 15 pounds to get back to 174-175 area. I hate New England winters and running outside is a challenge with cold and snow, so I will hit the gym and treadmills.
Thanks for the thread Tim, just shows not all treads on TB are about my favorite Monty Python / God Father quotes or which bass hangs the lowest and looks the coolest...
Count me in on the action.

And if I'm only accountable to myself, I don't exactly succeed, as been proven by failed New Years resolutions in 2010, 2011, and 2012.

For anyone with back injuries: What cardio do you do to keep weight off? I thought swimming was going to be the answer, so I started physical therapy in the pool, and they advised me not to swim regularly for cardio. | Swimming is hard on a sore back. I signed up for the gym 90lbs over weight, chronic fatigue, chronic pain in my back and legs, and with a back injury that was so bad I couldn't hardly climb the stairs to the gym to start working out. With no meds I've completely recovered and have almost no pain at all. But swimming will bring that back pain back real fast.

Trying to lose 34 lbs. by bikini season. | Not so much trying to lose weight as to reposition it.
I had back surgery in May of 2011, and the doctors told me I had to build core strength, or suffer pain for life. I realized I was unhappy with my old man spare tire, and started getting in good shape.
By last August, I was close to the shape I wanted, with dreams of going the rest of the way, and I'm not sure what happened, but I felt like I had gotten cast in a bad sequel:
Body Part II: The Return of the Stomach
So I'm cutting my portions again, and trying to just hit it a little bit harder at the gym.
In July, I turn fifty, and my goal has been to do a shirtless photo shoot, with abs showing. I fear that goal will not be reached, but I haven't totally given up hope.
I have rock hard abs from crunches, but they are still covered with a rather inconvenient layer of fat. I'm frustrated, but I am quite a few belt sizes smaller than when I started out, and I have lost some of my taste for chocolate and other sweet things.
I can't believe how little I eat, how hard I work out, how far I've come, and yet HOW FAR I HAVE TO GO.
To each and every one of you who are trying, for God's sake KEEP TRYING; not just to look good, but to be healthy.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: the ozarks | | | I'm on myfitnesspal and id love to have some friends on there to help me keep me going. I'm 31, went from being incredibly fit in my early 20's to being 262lbs. At 5'9", that's not an attractive weight by any means. I want to join the army national guard, and when I get done with basic training for the army I want to go into the police academy. My whole family is behind me, my fiance and children are super supportive. I have to lose at least 80lbs ASAP before I can try to apply for the guard, and I have to get under 28% body fat before the recruiter will take me seriously. I'm fiercely determined to pull this off, but I'm having to learn on my own to undo years, even decades of poor lifestyle choices. Its really f****** hard, and sometimes I fall off the wagon. I always catch myself and get right back to work though. Anyway, if I could make some myfitnesspal friends that would be awesome!

However, I'm not exactly what you'd call fierce or tight. My goal is to make my core mega strong this year, and let a hopefully higher metabolism take care of the rest. Best of luck, everyone!
