Well, the title pretty much says it all. Please state why you pick him / her.
My favorite is probably Robin Williams. I think think he's amazing in his serious roles. Not a fan of his comedy roles, but his drama acting is just awesome, in my opinion. I'll also mention Philip Seymour Hoffman. Not too well known, but he think he's a stellar actor.

If I had to pick one I'd say I've enjoyed a lot of John Cusack's films. On the other hand, I can mention people whose participation will virtually guarantee I won't watch it. Oh, and ...PM.

Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart.

But there are so many good ones. Gene Hackman. Donald Sutherland. Tommy Lee Jones. And for as whacked out as he is in real life, Billy Bob Thornton is quite an actor. And on and on.

Samuel L. Jackson - No matter what he's saying, just hearing his voice makes me smile. I could sit and listen to him read children's bedtime stories, he's just hilarious.
Morgan Freeman - The black grandfather I never had.
Heath Ledger - Yeah, I know it's cliche to give props to Heath for the Joker, but really that's the only time in a film where I've seen just a character and no actor. Yeah, he's wearing makeup, but be it the voice, mannerisms, whatever, there's nothing that makes you think "that's Heath Ledger playing the Joker." It's 100% character.
Clint Eastwood - Screw every other action star ever. THIS guy is the ultimate badass. Seen the trailers for Gran Torino? I'm pretty sure when he's 90 and using a walker or a power wheelchair, Clint Eastwood will still be able to intimidate people.
Brad Pitt - He tends to bring this one particular persona to a lot of his characters, kind of a hard man but with a goofy, clownish side. It reminds me of me. Or somebody I wish I was. Or something. Either way, I like it.
