Who wants to read a magazine about bass guitar? There are plenty of resources online.

because the bass magazine isn't for the pretty people thinking about fashion. or the people fixated on celebrity. It doesn't look good next to hot rod rags, or teen rags, or even crossword puzzles. Nevermind next to the frat-boy soft-porn rags. That leaves you no place on the shelf. Magazines, tho a fave of mine, are a dying medium. Save yourself some real money and subscribe while they are still around.

Personally, I think bass magazines of the norm are nothing but ads and the occasional semi-interesting but all too short interviews...just like most music publications these days.

I'm with MJ and MIJ. Just look on here...especially in area-specific forums, as there are always people asking about the things they just read in the magazines, so in a way you will be up-to-date by association

Bass isn't as popular an instrument as guitar. Do you think flute players go to Walmart and wonder why they have no flute magazines?

I think you might want to revise that comment before the mods see it

Yeah.. for Christmas I was asked by my grandma if I wanted a subscription to a magazine about basses... to which I laughed and told her that as far as I know there aren't any.
Such is the life of a bassist.

I can understand why Bass Player isn't on the shelf at Wal-Mart. But I also sympathize with the desire of the OP to pick up a copy once in a while. Sure, I greatly prefer TB and Bass Gear as resources. But maybe someone you really like will be on the BP cover or there's a lesson inside you might want--or you just want something bass-related to read on the plane and you don't have Bass Gear with you.

I'd hate to think about the injustices perceived by the skin flute players.

I started playing guitar so I could have lots of magazines about my instrument so I'd quit feeling that way when I went to Wal-Mart.

They know that bass players are too classy to shop in Walmart, so they don't bother stocking magazines or Cristal for us.

I prefer not to pay for advertising. Most mags are at least 40% of that. Seeing 'insert your fave bassist' endorse the newest product is not my idea of a good read. I can get that online for free. Magazines are a way of the past, this is 2011 man! Get with it swine! We have riffs to rehearse!
