Why is Barry Alvarez coaching the Rose bowl?

I know the head coach took off for Arkansas but aren't any of the assistant coaches the ones that have been there the entire year good enough? he's already made a bone head play not running Ball at the goal line?

The team captains went to Alvarez and asked him to coach. Before yesterday, he was 3-0 in Rose Bowl appearances. They just didn't have a QB this year that could make enough plays.

Ok that makes sense I was just upset usually in those situations one of the other coaches jumps in and takes care of that I thought he wanted to jump back in the coaches spotlight but the team captains voted him in can't say anything about that.

That was a tough game. Bucky had a chance at the end... QB situation was really a let down this year. After a year of Russell Wilson kind of thought this other transfer could get the job done. He could not. Enter Freshman Stave, he had some good games and expect him to be the answer for the next couple of years. Phillips, meh. game manager. should have put Stave in more. More risk, more reward. Barry's style fits more with Phillips though I suppose. Great to see the coach back on the sideline even if for one game. Congrats to Stanford, but please do something about the "marching band".

I don't know if Ball got enough carries? I didn't watch the entire game.

He got enough. Stanford started stacking the box against him. Without a passing game to speak of the Badgers ran the jet Sweep with Gordon to free up some space. That worked well enough for a bit. Neither team could move the ball in the second half.

A bunch of the assistants left, too. Don't know if they were there yesterday, but they're going with Beilema. Personally, I thought it was a pretty spineless thing for him to do. He could have at least finished the season.

They all coached yesterday except for ol Bert. Only a couple of them are headed for Arkansas. Others took gigs elsewhere. it does seem kind of lame but it's the norm in college ball. There is work to do between the season and the bowls so often times a departing coach gets a new gig and leaves the team beforehand. What was spineless is that 'ol Berty was talking to AR in like September. Barry was blindsided that he was even looking.

It sucks but you don't turn down an SEC job even if it's Arkansas

Majority were fine with Bielema leaving, me included.

I think they got a solid hire in Gary Anderson from Utah State. He seems on the rise.
