I'm just curious :
why does everyone call a Bass guitar "she" or "her" ?
to me a Bass guitar has nothing of a gracious female or sth. like that....

I've always called a bass a "he"". IMO "She" or "her" work well for guitars, but not for basses (unless you fancy bulky dames with guttural voices, hehe).

My basses are all slim, curvaceous, sexy females (well, except for "Kyle's mom", she's a big fat b***h)
Key point...Curves.
I rest my case

Basses don't mind if you have another bass in the house.
Basses don't mind if you check out others basses when you go out.
Basses don't get mad when you handle your friend's bass.
Your bass never argues with you.
Your bass doesn't get angry when you bring another bass home.
Basses don't get mad about you staying out till 1:00AM playing with other basses.
I could keep going...I've got pages of these. |

For example, French. The word for "the" is le or la depending on the gender of the subject word after it. The boy - le garcon; the girl - la fille.
Basses have curves like a woman so many subconsciously assign female gender. Ymmv.

both are called the Bass and the Guitar but - the "the" before the guitar is describing the guitar as a "she" while the "the" before the Bass describes it as a "he"
To me the best example is BB King's Lucille - what a great name for a guitar.... but would you name your Bass like that ?? Me not

I would much rather caress a girl, but that's just me. YMMV, etc

T_G | I don't caress my basses too much...I don't like them to get injured granted, but I play them live so they're GONNA get the odd dint (besides - they CAN "slap" you back with a broken string across the face, which women generally dont I dont think...) Quote: |

(Unless you like the wierdo's like Piccolo basses or Baritone guitars, but thats a different topic...)

Playing live doesn't change that, my girls (even the 'actual' girl) love to perform, and giving them the grace and respect they deserve adds to the fun. But get them mad, and boy you got trouble Quote: |

Oh yeah, she also ends up with some severe buckle rash and look a bit road worn after 40 years.

Guitars are feminine ... they play pretty melodies and chords ...
But basses play low notes that border on subsonic. They rattle the whole building. They grind and growl. They use big fat strings. I keep my basses in the basement so the women and children in the house will be safe.
My basses are not girly in any way. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
