I mean, it's just stuff and water but I always manage to make it turn out horrible lol
Today's carrot and coriander effort would have been lovely if not for the massive overload of coriander that's currently melting my face
All this to try and lose 70 lbs!
Anyone else have any cooking stories to tell or tips for losing weight and getting fit?

I tend to burn creamy soups, and have never really tried them.
Try something easy first, like Chicken broth with carrots and potatoes? I can't imagine anyone screwing that up.

So really, all I can put in the soup is vegetables, herbs and spices... no meat or potatoes etc

The same process works with Boston Butt leftovers from the grill. |

How about carrots? Boiled, they may perform the same kind of function as potatoes.

- Find veggies you like - and then stock up on them.
[when I lost a bunch of weight years ago, it was because I discovered how much I loved - cabbage. I started cooking it very often, and eating as much of it as I wanted. And the weight came off. ]
Unfortunately, the weight is back, but only after many years, and lots of stupidity.

The same process works with Boston Butt leftovers from the grill. | ^^ Right there. Smoked pork hocks make a beautiful soup base as well.
Fry up some diced fat back, saute some celery and onions in the grease, maybe some taters, throw in some water of prepackaged broth, some veggies, maybe a little rice or barley, salt pepper...........
Good to go.

Try carrot and coriander soup some time... a vegetarian friend of mine recommended it to me. The recipe I made today was all my own though you'd be pleased to know... when other people make it it's amazing

And broccoli and courgettes. Amazing stuff. I made a soup last week with broccoli, courgettes, cabbage, tomatoes, onions and a stock cube. Would have been really nice, except I didn't realise the pan I used was rusty in the bottom... lovely metallic taste
Yep, I really am that hopeless in the kitchen!

Originally Posted by Evil Undead Anyone ever tried to make a fish soup? Or is that a gross idea? | This is delicious stuff, and pretty easy to cook. Arroz de tamboril
Prep: 20 min
Cook: 60 min
Serves 4
600g monkfish fillets, skinned
8 raw prawns, unpeeled
4 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 sweet red pepper, finely chopped
2 chorizo sausages, sliced
2 large tomatoes, chopped
1.3 litres hot stock (vegetable or fish)
400g risotto rice
1 tsp Spanish paprika
2 bay leaves
Sea salt and pepper
2 tbsp flat parsley leaves, torn
1 lemon
Good splash of white wine
METHOD
Cut the fish into bite-sized pieces.
Heat half the olive oil in a frying pan and cook the fish and prawns on all sides until they change colour. Remove to a plate and season well. Add the remaining oil and cook the onion, garlic, red pepper and chorizo and fry for 10 minutes, stirring well. Add the tomatoes, stock or water and bring to the boil. Add the (unwashed) rice, paprika, bay leaves, salt and pepper, stirring well.
Reduce the heat to very low, splash in the wine, cover and simmer for 20 minutes until the rice is almost cooked but still wet and soupy (add more stock if not). Add the monkfish, prawns and parsley and simmer gently for 10 minutes.
Scatter with parsley and serve in warm pasta bowls, with lemon wedges for squeezing.

Ok Evil, here ya go. 1 can Swanson vegetable broth,1 can kidney beans,2 diced green pepper,1 diced onion, 1 diced jalapeno(deveined and seeded), 1 cup sliced carrots, 1 Tsp dried cilantro, 1/2 tsp ground cumin, 1/2 tsp garlic powder,1/2 tsp chili powder, 1/4 tsp thyme, salt and pepper to taste, once veggies are ready to eat, thicken soup with 3Tbsp fat free refried beans.
This is my vegetarian taco soup, almost fat free, tastes great | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
