Why do people have to put up stupid self-destructive crap on the internet?

Sign in to disble this ad
Random thoughts: Bears QB Jay Cutler gets legitimately injured in a playoff game, and armchair medical doctors that formerly played in the NFL tweet that Cutler is a whussy. Derrick Brooks was one of them. He's a respected ex-player and more importantly a respected man for his character, but he got egg on his face on that one.

A couple of days ago Gerald McCoy [the Bucs first round draft pick of last year] heard his neighbor beating a woman next door. Instead of calling 911 or telling the guy to stop [McCoy is one big dude] he tweeted a play-by-play of said beating and "lol'd". Bad PR to say the least. McCoy realized the damage to his image could be done so he took down the tweets. Too late. The internet is forever. Screen shots and cache will almost always get you.

Now today we have a congressman that decided to post shirtless pics of himself to some chick on Craig's List with a sex offer. He resigned his seat.

Why do people feel compelled publicly post all this stupid stuff? Why do people put so much personal info about themselves on FaceBook that they get their homes burglarized, identities stolen or even fired from their jobs?

Wait, if people stopped posting silly ---- on the internet, there'd be only porn left. Nevermind.

The OP appears to be, at least mildly, hypocritical. Then again, if there's a way to reduce the amount of silly stuff and streamline the porn...well, you might be on to something!

Down with silly!

no i think he was alluding to the fact that you sort of outed your self as someone who watches porn (which if you're a man is a given).

The internet is still pretty young. Even young people don't always understand that posts are eternal, and that anyone can read them.

Because people are stupid and/or want attention. I am starting to believe that both and just the former are much more popular motivators than I originally thought.

People are stupid and don't understand the the Internet is not anonymous, that it's public, not private.

People know nothing about the magic little boxes that sit under the desk work.

A lot of people lack the comprehension to understand the consequences of their internet based actions. Simple as that.

At one of my former employers, two people conspired to steal confidential company information, using the company's e-mail system. They got busted and fired the same day.

Did they conspire on Facebook/Twitter?

If I read Jim's post correctly they conspired over company email which is almost always tracked. Though a more public forum, conspiring on Facebook/Twitter would have probably taken them longer to get caught.

Sorry for not being more clear - PSPookie is right, they conspired over company email. The same day they sent the e-mails, the IT guys read them and the two people were fired.

The company was notoriuos for monitoring people's internet surfing, too. If you spent more than a few minutes on any web site that was not clearly work-related, you got a warning. Knowing that, wouldn't you think people would be smart enough not to use company e-mail to plan stealing company secrets?

People do stupid things all the time. Nothing new there.

Jay Cutler has no idea how to comport himself; his demeanor stinks. He needs a PR advisor to train him in how to act in public. I'm serious - if you're going to be a public figure like an NFL starting QB, you need to learn how to act in public. His body language and demeanor contribute a great deal to his lousy public image.

Indications are that he's a decent guy and does some good things, but he shuns publicity or credit for them - and then appears to be a spoiled brat in public. Most of his problems are self-inflicted.

+1

My engineer is a huge Bears fan - I am a Packer fan. We give it back and forth in a very good natured kind of banter, so I am no stranger to nay-saying Cutler. Now to answer a previous question, NO, I don't like Jay Cutler, I think he was over-rated and he displayed his real ability several times (i.e. hitting opposing players right in the numbers with the ball), though I must admit that I am very happy to have him in a Bears' uniform.
