Why is the mountain time zone an hour earlier?

I'm sitting here in my hotel in Vail, waiting for ER to come on at 10PM as usual. I scroll by NBC around 9:15 here, and ER is on! I then remembered network TV shows are an hour early in the mountain time zone.

Why?

I can't bear to see a medical tv-show.

Except for MD House.

Because I'm a big Hugh Laurie fan.

Except that last sundays House episode on 2B was pretty crappy ...

Anyway, Parminder Nagra is reason enough to watch ER, although the absurd plot changes tend to get on your nerves after a while.

When he was faking brain cancer?
I liked it, although I think in that episode the interaction between the characters became a bit too weird.
The normal weird is good enough for me.

My favourite is the episode where he is lecturing a bunc of students and where we discover what happened to him.
