Isn't this scary to any of you?
4 members & 23 guests
Well, this is an extreme picture but it's always like this to 50-50 members/guests ratio.
I can understand a bunchload of guests viewing the Basses, Amps, etcetera forums. People who don't want to join the forum but are researching something bass related.
But what is an outsider's interest in our Off Topic forum?
Are they that curious what bass players think about Lost Season 6, the NBA playoffs and what are funny pictures?
Does Maki have a big anonymous fanbase that follow up on his "2 cents" advice?
Is it relevant what our opinion is on global warming to the outside world?
Or is there lucrative general interest in love problems from bassists aged 13 to 67?
Or...
Do you think our wifes and/or girlfriends are keeping track of us?
Is your employer aware that you are spending paid hours posting here?
Are your friends (in real life) chuckling when you feel comfortable coming out of the closet out here among open-minded TBers?
Is your mother worried about your peculiar interests and opinions? Or your father?
Or...
Are there bigger things going on?
Is Big Brother watching us through various IP-adresses? |

Also, chances are that a member(s) here posted a link to a thread in the off topic forum on another forum they are a member of. Subsequently there are guests reading those threads, plus they might just cruise around and look at others.

Forum searchers gather links for topics that may have nothing to do with the forum's main intent- a forum search for blimps for example may bring up a thread from this forum's OT, a blimp forum, and mike_v_s's own "Blimps 'n Cristal" forum. Another reason is newbies to a forum often gravitate to the OT section, as they may not know enough information to contribute much to the regular forums and the OT section gives them something to relate to. This behavior is probably mimicked by lurkers who haven't yet officially signed up.
The guests may also include search bots/spiders. |

Why? They are on a work computer, friend's computer, or traveling and using a business center computer or other...

You see a few "MSN Spider bot", "Google bot", "Yahoo something something",.... but not that many.
I assume by this that the forum software recognizes the difference between guests and bots... and I think bots are not counted as guests. |

| | I hate. | | Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: The state of denial. | | | There's a map hidden somewhere in a thread here in TBOT that leads to a massive cache of treasure, alcohol and women of relaxed moral attitudes, and, believe it or not, it's not just bassists who are into those things.
