FWIW, I believe that many currently "rich" people, particularly those in finance, with vast paper wealth will no longer be rich in the not-too-distant future. Perhaps within three years. Most likely within five.

The problem though is that it would take me pages and pages of text (and time!) to explain exactly why.

In my experience unpleasantness is not predicted by socioeconomic status, neither is societal parasitism. The 'entitlement' mindset crosses socioeconomic lines as well.

All we have here, from what I can tell, is a lot of opinion and anecdotal experience masquerading as factual knowledge. In that I include myself (I know folks on assistance. They need it legitimately. ).

I don't think Stuck-up-ness and asshattery are really quantifiable values.

As an example, you can hate Bill Gates for any reasons you want, but he gave ten thousand million dollars to develop and distribute vaccines for children. Now how many un-stuck-up middle class people could do that? He also gave 750 million dollars to fight AIDS, TB and malaria.

Gates, Buffett and over 50 other billionaires have pledged to give away half their wealth to charity. I believe that amounts to over $600 billion dollars. The charities that benefit from the pledge would be hurting if there were no rich people. Gates used to be the richest man in the world, but now he's not since he's given away 28 billion dollars so far. He is SO stuck up.

So if a zombie makes dinner of someone rich, are they having an expensive dinner?

^ The poor are hoarding all of the good guns and junk parts that can be used to maintain machinery after manufacturing ceases.

Of course the rich are better at brewing the wine and beer that will have to replace our zombie contaminated drinking water and have those useful walls around their mansion compounds.

come on, Eric! (lighten up)

the thing that pisses me off, are the CORPORATIONS that are on WELFARE!!!!

the airlines, auto makers, the FRIGGIN GOVERNMENT!!!

they cost you more than the homeless & needy, while you pay for their goods and services. then top that off with a ton of deductions. let's talk about greedy, scandalous politicians who work for the corporate machine.

OOPS,...

This is a good time to recommend that people watch the movie Idiocracy. Although not a great movie, the premise of the movie is somewhat holding true as a prophecy. If you don't see the general IQ of the developed world lowering, try speaking with most 16 year olds....try taking the phone out of their hands and putting it on a table next to you and see what kind of eye contact you get once it vibrates and they can't respond.

I will never debate that the world has gotten more possession centric when the success of a developing country is measured in how many Apple stores they might have or the leading News discussion is the opening of retail stores on Thanksgiving. The giving away of their fortunes that Munji discussed is the balance to all the things I see that are sadly progressing the wrong direction.

My goal is to grow up and be a moderately rich thousandaire. Maybe even shoot long and go for multiple thousands.

I've been friends with and acquainted with people who were/are truly wealthy and people who were trailer park wannabes. Some of the people were just naturally nice to their fellow humans regardless of their financial standing, and some were just wastes of oxygen, financial status not withstanding.

As a multi-thousandaire, I can vouch for this plan.

There are sh**** people everywhere, regardless of income, class, race, religion, ethnicity, sex, etc....

That's reality.

Best way of paying it forward I know of. Beers are on me if we ever meet in person.
