I've just had what is probably the most terrible three hours of my life.
My supposed friend said to my face that he wishes that I would just go off and kill myself and that he would feel no guilt if I died.
He also said that I was a terrible bassist and that I would never be in a gigging band. He said this without ever hearing me play a note.
I feel like crap. I spent 8 months of my life with this guy and I've lost that time.

| The above statement illustrates clearly the man is talking out of his derriere.
As for the other stuff- I'm sorry a 'friend' would do this to you(or anyone else). Uncalled for.

Hello jazz bass!

Tell him to **** himself and move on or laugh at him...they love that.

Take what he says with a grain of salt, and use his words to be a better bassist, musician and person!!!

Hello jazz bass! | Personally I'd look for more positive motivation to get better than that. |

And forget the guy. Seems like a d-bag. You've seen his true colours and its not worth your time surrounding yourself with people like that. You're better off.

She called me when I was on the way to a wedding, and then was going out to the club afterwards with my best friend, whom I hadn't seen in a long time. Last minute call. I told her I couldn't and she snapped something about "guess I will have to find someone else to do it, bye" click. I am not working. I would of had to go the opposite direction to her house and then back around to where I was going. The thing that gets me is, I found out a few weeks later that she was supposed to do a favor for one of her friends and watch her friend's mom for 2 hours (she is ill), and then she back out 30 minutes before...and this friend was out of town on a job assignment and couldn't do it! So she didn't have room to get pissed at me!! She said she needed that favor and she knows who will be there..uh, excuse me but I covered for her butt when she was sleeping around on her husband!!!!!!! If that isn't the ultimate favor, then I don't know what!!!!! So I feel for you. I know..sometimes you find out who your real friends are by the way they act. And if this friend tells you to die, etc. then they are NOT your friend to begin with.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jan 2001 Location: Adelaide, South Australia | | | The big question is: do you believe him? Even if you do you can still accept yourself without it getting you too down.
It's hard to say from an outsiders perspective but there must be something bad going on with this person for them to say these hurtful things. That's not to excuse it, of course. The main point is to not attach your self esteem/worth and self acceptance to it.
Sounds to me like you should move on (but I don't know either of you so that's up to you.), there's plenty of people out there who will accept and like you for who you are. |

Obviously the guy was trying to hurt your feelings and ime, has done it before.
It's just an attempt to control you, hurt your self-esteem and keep you in a vulnerable emotional state for his benefit.
Just remember, free speech works both ways. If someone tells you what they think, then it's okay for you to tell them what you think.
When people around me start spewing crap, I don't shrink back.
I calmly ask them "why are you telling me that or how did you reach that conclusion?".
When they won't answer or answer with more crap, I tell them "you're spewing nonsense and I know the game you're attempting to play. It doesn't work with me, so kiss off".
You only think he's your friend. A friend doesn't talk to another friend like that.
Time to move on.
Good luck. |

The guy seems like a complete ass to me, good riddance. The part about saying you suck at something without even knowing wether it's true only illustrates that. |

i'm always going to have my bass and my other friends who like me for who I am and also respect my choice to play bass.
i still feel like crap though. I want to
