I work for FedEx Express. I have chewed out more than one person for rough handling of musical instruments! If I were the courier that had to deliver the OP's bass I would have been embarrassed and apologetic!

Wow. A few months ago, I bought an old Epiphone on Ebay that the seller wrapped in a trash bag (no gig bag, case, or box!). It arrived with a chunk of paint missing, but was otherwise intact. I was pretty ticked, but after seeing this, I'd say I got off easy.

I've read this exact phenomenon so many times on this site alone, at least once per thread in these types of threads... is it that the majority of the instrument selling populace are chimps devoid of any shred of common sense, or is TB the repository of the unluckiest musical equipment recipients ever?

I bought an amp from a very well respected bass cab maker on this forum. The packaging consisted of pieces of cardboard taped together to cover all the sides, then a buttload of tape for the corners.

I was really worried about this happening to my BTB. Ibanez wanted $200+ for the case and I definitely wanted it, but I just couldn't justify getting gouged. I bought it through a local music shop that's an Ibby dealer (instead of ordering it on teh webz), so I at least knew that the music store owner could vouch for me if it came in damaged and deal with headache of shipping it back and ordering another, but I was still worried that it would come in screwed up and make me reconsider that ridiculously expensive case.

To my horror, it came in a cardboard box with virtually no packing material - just a foam form at the top and one at and bottom. But after taking it out, examining it, and hooking it up to one of their amps, it turned out completely pristine. I will never order another instrument without a case. I have no idea how that Ibby came through okay.

Looks like somebody, somewhere doesn't really value their job enough.

I'm pretty sure it will end up in a dumpster

I'm assuming it was in a case?

Reading is not one of my strongest skills

Well that makes me never want to do business with Bass NW if they can't ship a bass properly.

It's merely a surface scratch. I've seen worse.
