Angry Why would a church do this????

Sign in to disble this ad
First off, NO TROLLS! but, i just saw an article on the internet... and what happened to me is evil and mean. the story goes, a guy walks into an amish school house, with a gun, and opens fire on them all, killing 12 some children. and a few days later, at the recession, a certain church protests it, with signs that says: "thank God for dead amish children". How could some one have so little of a heart that they would do this?? I will not say the churches full name, and their famous sign says this: "God Hates Fags".... I just saw this, (even though it happened ten years ago), and i just had to vent... do any of you guys know this church in blame??? do any of you guys feel the same as I do? (I am saddened, and pissed off...)

People as a whole can be stupid. We tend to judge people as groups, not as individuals. It's quick, easy, and it doesn't upset our precious views of the world, that can NEVER be disrupted. Hell, I'm guilty of that myself, but never to that extent.

I think part of the response is ignorance, for every intelligent reasonable man (or woman) of faith, there are 10 drooling idiots with signs. Of course, that's with everything. I hate how our brains are programmed to have a group mentality the way we do - if there are enough of us together, we'll all degenerate to idiots, even if individually we're reasonable. It may be because they feel that they have the strength of a group behind them, so they can be prejudiced.

Personally, this saddens me that society can go this low. I think that the loss of a life is not something to be taken lightly, and it is not something that should be celebrated. At times it may be necessary, but it should never be the first choice.

This sickens me.

Yes, this is a well, known, and almost universally despised "church" of which the only members are a certain man and his immediate family who get ther jollies blaming just about everything bad that happens in the world to gays and those who support them, which, for some reason includes soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. This would be the Westboro Baptist Church headed by Fredrick Phelps and his family. They like to show up at places like Dover Air Force Base when they are unloading the remains of soldiers killed over there and private funerals waving their "God Hates Fags" signs and yelling that the soldiers got what they deserved for serving a government that allows homosexuality. And that is just the tip of the iceberg with these morons.
It has been proposed by some that they are running a scam, where the family protests at certain events/places in the most obnoxious and provocative manner possible, and when they inevitably get hassled/attacked, they sue their attackers for violaitng their civil rights.

What Topspin said. I agree that it is saddening and it still gets to me when I hear about some of their "activities"

Basically, that's right. It's really just this scam artist Fred Phelps, and his wife and daughters.

Westboro Baptist is a bunch of nut jobs, although, in all honesty, I truly hate it when ANY group of people use religion as an excuse to murder, discriminate, etc.

As much as I'd like to leave this open, for continued trashing of these guys, it's outside of TB policy for this thread to continue.
