North America is a continent. America is just short for United States of America.

The continent is actually North America. The US is 1 of 3 countries in NA.

North America is a continent, not just "America".

When the word America is used it is 99.99% of the time referring to the U.S.A

Question answered.

North/South America are continents.

"America," while incorrect, is generally understood as a short-hand way of writing and saying "United States of America."

It's been that way for a very long time.

Plus, when referencing Fender basses as "MIM" and "MIJ"/"CIJ", it logically makes sense that a 3-letter acronym would need to apply for U.S.A.-made Fenders. That, and "MIUSA" looks ridiculous. Some people do refer to them as USA Fenders also, not MIA.

I can't believe I just started to argue the etymology of the acronym "MIA" in a bass forum...
