I'm looking to buy some winter boots--something which would be suitable for long hikes through a foot to two feet of snow in 20-30 degree weather.
I've tried looking around at product reviews, but I don't know where to start, and more than half of them seem to be only "customer" reviews.
Any suggestions? |

Then there's the option of using more usual hiking boots + gaiters to help with snow. You'll probably be okay without insulation in 20 F as long as you're active, but if you need to stand around same place I'd get insulated boots.

If you over do it your feet will sweat and they will be cold. If you are going to be walking in 2' of snow though, I would get something like a pair of the green LaCrosse knee high rubber boots, which cinch tight at the top and come in a variety of amounts of Thinsulate. Leave room for your toes to move around or you will be sorry.

A pair of waterproof Hi-Tech boots and two pairs of socks does the trick for me when I have to stomp around in a field in 14 degree weather.

I got these a few weeks back, and really like them. Really, anything by Merrell is fine by me. They're so amazingly comfortable. They're also great for hiking and waterproof, so I'd imagine they hold up pretty well in the snow (not really sure yet because NYC hasn't had much snow yet this year). |

I had gone in and picked up a pair of boots and some socks, and the guy asked me if I was going to Antarctica with that gear. When I said I just needed something to stay dry and fairly warm while working in the yard, he hooked me up proper.

Plus their nice and light weight. |

Just had this discussion with my gf, she works at a kennel and needed boots to take the dogs out in the wet or snow.
I endorse the above posters that mentioned 800grams of thinsulate and Redwing Shoes (as a second choice) I will also throw Herman Survivors in the ring as my own personal favorite boot. The pair I have was bought in Wyoming when I was 18, I'm now 25 and they are still going strong, comfy, and warm
