My pipes are frozen, and I'm either going have to change some plumbing before work, or call in. And it's 6 degrees with 20MPH winds, too. This is going to suck.

Not cold compared to other parts of the world, but it's pretty cold for Australia.

Trevorus,
Having lived in FREEZING NY for most of my life, two suggestions............
Foam pipe insulation and keep your water running slowly on cold nights!!!! |

So rank those three things on levels of suckiness, from one to three with three being the suckiest. You have frozen pipes, a temperature of six degrees, and 20MPH winds.

My dog would disagree, of course.... heh heh! |

I upped it to solid 3/4" pipe with full foam insulation. I'm going to leave my water running a bit to keep it from freezing. I had actually been meaning to re-plumb that stuff for a long while, but you just don't think about it in the summer... The ice also broke my main valve, which was ok, because everything froze, and the crack didn't leak. So I replaced the main (whose knob was stripped off) with a 1/4 turn lever valve, and we're golden.

I know that feeling of "shoulda done it earlier" but sometimes this is just how it works out...usually with much more discomfort and inconvenience. |
