Winter sucks...

My pipes are frozen, and I'm either going have to change some plumbing before work, or call in. And it's 6 degrees with 20MPH winds, too. This is going to suck.

Actually, I think it's your insulation that sucks. My pipes are just fine, as is my winter

Not really! It gets to around 14 degrees during the day and -4 at the night at my dad's house, and he only lives 45 minutes out of Sydney.
Not cold compared to other parts of the world, but it's pretty cold for Australia.

It's only going up to 60 here today, major cold spell

Trevorus,

Having lived in FREEZING NY for most of my life, two suggestions............

Foam pipe insulation and keep your water running slowly on cold nights!!!!

It was 65f yesterday...and it was 30f this morning. North carolina winters are stupid. Oh yeah, let some water trickle over-night...

How much of your pipes are frozen?

So rank those three things on levels of suckiness, from one to three with three being the suckiest. You have frozen pipes, a temperature of six degrees, and 20MPH winds.

I'm ready for spring since the very first snow flake. Fall's gone, the leaves changed to their magnificent colors, everything is now gray and lifeless, time for spring.

My dog would disagree, of course.... heh heh!

Well, I got my pipes fixed. Whomever plumbed this place used a 3/8" flexible copper pipe for a main. How stupid. I upped it to solid 3/4" pipe with full foam insulation. I'm going to leave my water running a bit to keep it from freezing. I had actually been meaning to re-plumb that stuff for a long while, but you just don't think about it in the summer... The ice also broke my main valve, which was ok, because everything froze, and the crack didn't leak. So I replaced the main (whose knob was stripped off) with a 1/4 turn lever valve, and we're golden.

It's finally warming up, in L.A. December was hella cold; highs in the low 60s (about 18c)all month. Looks like we'll see low 70s (~20c) today. I think I'll go roller skating at the beach.

Man, THAT was good timing on your part - to get at that stuff before it thawed.

I know that feeling of "shoulda done it earlier" but sometimes this is just how it works out...usually with much more discomfort and inconvenience.

Wait.... 3/8" pipes?

How did you EVER take a shower? Or even wash your car? That's even worse than all these low-consumption shower heads they ONLY sell any more!!!

Good point. I hope the guy who plumbed it didn't install the electrical system as well.
