Wireless router recommendations, anyone?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all -

My D-link Wireless Router finally fried -

After knowing the BS I went through to hook it up in the first place, I'm not buying another one (plus, installing it puts additional "trial software" on your computer that doesn't work either).

Cisco's Linksys reviews from users proves to be pretty lame as well.

I'm hearing good things about NetGear.

Any comments/recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Z

Net Gear makes decent Routers, but basically any router is bound to have the occasional problem. The "Linksys WRT610N Dual-N Router" is a really good one with high reviews where I've looked. Basically with routers, the higher the price, the longer they'll last and with better range and consistently.
In my opinion.

Anything BUT Netgear, IMO. While they used to make great stuff, everything from them that I've dealt with recently has been flimsy, junky, and problem laden.

MY whole and honest opinion: there is no brand of router that isn't flimsy and junky. They all have to be reset on occasion and messed with. They all don't work the way they're supposed to for long. My opinion, anyway.
My friend owns a computer-gaming center and I used to help them out from time to time with hooking stuff up, and such and they've had to replace numerous different kinds of routers.

There is no peice of hardware in my house that works 100% of the time. I use Cisco routers, but since I dont think you want to churn out $500+ for a router linksys works pretty good too.

Haven't had a problem with my new router. It's a netgear rangemax-N gigabit, had it for over a year and some months now. If the net goes down to the cable modem, you might have to reset it, but it usually just resets itself after the modem comes back online. Whatever you do, avoid belkin... they're pure crap.

I've used Linksys, NetGear and D-Link. I had so many problems with dropped connections that the NetGear was replaced with a D-Link DIR655.

I and my IT Network guy both feel that Linksys makes the best wireless routers. Their software is easy to use and I have no problems with it...and they have given me the fewest problems of any brand.

If you start reading reviews online, it seems like NO wireless router is immune from complaints about dropped connections. Problem is, you have no way to judge the knowledge and skill level of the reviewer, and many of them have no clue what they're doing.

Thanks, all!!

Got the linksys - and it's working great. Can't believe it set up in 5 minutes - especially after it took 5 hours or so to hook up the DLink when it was new.

Thanks again! Off to watch the news.

It figures..First time I go to Las Vegas, I experience an earthquake.

My daughter gets to go to New Zealand to student teach...and they get put on Tsunami watch.

Prayers welcomed.
