Open letter to EVH:

Dear Edward,

We get it: Wolfgang is your son. And your son is just a little too old to be posing in all these huggy-kissy poses you insist upon. My fiancee helped Valerie change his diapers and still calls him Wolfie, and even she thinks you're being creepy. Just stop it. And while you're at it, just stop it with the keyboards also.... it's been 27 years since 1984 and you haven't gotten any better. I think you should be forced to spend all your time in the public eye wearing a t-shirt that says "I'M THE 'HOLE WHO WROTE 'HOW MANY SAY I'." Man up and own it.

Sincerely,
Guy who had your posters on the wall until you hired Sammy and got weird.

So who's singing for VH now? I know Sammy left and the guy from Extreme only lasted 1 album. I know David came back and then left again so who is singing for them now?

That's gotta be fun. Being my age and in Van Halen. Although, being with your Dad and Uncle must get awkward after gigs...

"Hey son, where you going? I was just gonna stick the game on!"
"Sorry Dad, I'll catch up later. Right now I'm going to finish a bottle of JD and throw a stripper out the window."

1984:
Me: clueless college freshman, drank too much, smoked weed, drove Camaro with no AC
Van Halen: played loud music, partied really hard, didn't get along with band members. Cool! They're rock stars!

2011:
Me: Two master's degress, six-figure job, own house, don't smoke, only rarely drink beer
Van Halen: play loud music, party really hard, don't get along with band members...

These guys seem like they are in exactly the same place, personally, professionally and artistically that they were 27 years ago. I'd call them stagnant but I don't want to insult ponds full of algae and mosquito larvae.

And yes, Wolfie does look like fat Elvis.

The kid from 2 & 1/2 Men is Eddies son? Never would have guessed it.

He looks like his mamma. I've seen other pics of him and he didn't look really fat. Standing next to his dad, anyone would look fat

"Didn't I teach you any manners? How many times do I have to say 'Dad, Uncle Alex. Would you like to join me while I finish off a bottle of JD and throw a stripper out the window?'"

"Sorry Dad. You are right. Mom would want us to do things as a family."

I think Wolfie has time to work on his image. I mean, look at his old man

Rehab and dentures worked wonders. Imagine what p90x could do.

One thing: loose the "Oh look !! My bass looks like my dads Frankenstein guitar !!" He did it back then because there wasn't anything close to what he needed to create his signature sound. You're just seen as swinging from the musical umbilical chord.

Branding.
The only hook here is the well-established Van Halen brand, so remind the consumer of it whenever possible. There's no value to Wolfie establishing his own "style".

+1

EVH turned the musical world on its @$$ when their first album came out, and every guitard went right to the woodshed to try and figure out what the hell was going on. Wofie doesn't have anywhere near the talent of his daddy, and the frankenbass is a blatant and pathetic attempt at saying "me, too". Without the trademark family brand in hand, a lot of people wouldn't have a clue who the fat kid is.

Well, "Fat Elvis" is better than "Chaz Bono". Just sayin'....
