Woman who hired a hit on husband released

I'll be honest, I only first heard about this story because it was on a recent episode of Cops.

Newlywed Dalia Dippolito Gets 20 Years in Murder Sting - ABC News

Basically, in 2009, this woman Dalia Dippolito hired a hit on her husband of a few months. Only the hitman was an undercover cop. They caught the whole thing on tape. She tries to deny it, cops show her the tapes, and ultimately she goes to jail (sentenced to 20 years).

But recently, she was released on $500k bond and she's on house arrest now: Dalia Dippolito Released From Florida Jail On Bond

I just don't get it. What kind of judge in their right mind would do such a thing? The first article has him calling her "pure evil" and yet he grants her bail...she's trying to appeal by the way.

Women always get preferential treatment within the justice system.

If a *guy* had done the same, there's no way in hell things would've gone the same way.

Astounding, if unfortunately normal.

the potential victim married an ugly woman... they could make a case that it was a "mercy killing"

The hell? ...and for the record I don't consider her ugly, but she's not my type anyway.

How does someone be found guilty of committing a crime only to be released on bail waiting appeal?

With the massive incarceration rate in the US, can't help but wonder how many people are still in prison for significantly lower offence.

Either way, pretty screwed up!

meh, she's entitled to appeal her case, as well as to be out of court for said case on bail. There's no real proof that she's getting off scot-free here, she's waiting for her APPEAL case.

I understand, there are plenty of crazy women out there who do crazy things and the disproportionate number who get away with it, like that one article that was posted about the lady who was accused of cutting her ex-husband's penis off and tossing it into the insinkerator. Of course, with that article, we don't even KNOW whether or not the lady got away with it as far as I remember. This lady is not getting off scot-free though, she's just getting an APPEAL, and BAIL. Kindly stop the hyperbole until AFTER the appeal IF she's declared innocent in spite of all the evidence stacked against her.
