Has anyone been watching this show on the History Channel this week? I think it is one of the best WWII documentaries I have ever seen. Tons of never before seen COLOR video, and the naration, interviews and stories are amazing.

I hear ya JT,...I heard about this show. It's times like these I actually wish I had cable,...and a fancy TV (those times are few and far between). I guess we could just netflix the DVD's if and when they become available.

yeah, I've been watching it. It's incredible what difference the addition of color makes to your perspective of the war.

Since I always grew up seeing the old black and white clips, I always had the implicit attitude that this was just something that happened way back when, and wasn't really... real, I guess you could say.

watching the bombs falling in color, the people being mowed down, men writhing on the ground burning really makes you stop for a minute and go "My God, this really was the most horrible incident in human history. It happened, this is real" Reality is a frightening thing.

Its amazing. You can't help but feel so much respect and gratitude for these soldiers. It doesn't hide any of the tragedy and horror of war.

Best show on TV right now. It's so much better than all the bullcrap that comes on network TV every night.

Man, I watched it every night, and that was some powerful stuff. I am currently stationed in Okinawa, and I have been to the very cliffs they spoke of where thousands of Japanese and Okinawan's threw themselves off of the cliffs. I have also been to Shuri Castle. I truly feel this is one of the best WWII documentaries ever. Gary Sinise did an awesome job of narrating this series (he's a really nice guy too). I put this up there with Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers.

On another note, I can't recall his name, but the B-29 Co-Pilot that flew his 35 missions, then went on to be a P-51 pilot, that poor guy, he shot down his first German (Messerschmidt 109 I believe) and followed it all the way down and couldn't pull out of his dive......it brings the song Ironic to mind.

There were some very powerfull stories in that documentary, and I will defintiely be purchasing it, rather than downloading the torrent.

I watched all of them. Great Documentary. Incredible footage and narration. I loved how they would randomly cut in with the actual vet during the narration, basically taking what the actor was saying and switching seamlessly to the vet. Very powerful.

Those guys were most assuredly "The Greatest Generation" and deserve all the honor and respect that has (and has not) been given them.

And many, many of those guys were kids that in today's generation would still be living with Mom & Dad, working a slacker part-time job (if even), and playing video games 10 hrs a day. Those WWII soldiers were 19- and 20-year old boys who went halfway around the world away from home and became MEN literally overnight.

Agreed, network TV blows ass. All reality shows, "talent" competitions and trashy sitcoms. I can't believe anyone even wastes their time watching that garbage anymore. If you're gonna watch the boob tube, at least get yourself some education in the process.

I watched the first 2 hour episode but have the others on DVR waiting to be watched this weekend. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the episodes, they were done very well and I think it is good for people to be able to see the tragedy and heroism of war.
