You want to trade 1 to 10,000 chickens or a few cents to $50,000?
What is the conversion rate when one person has a flock of chickens and the other has a few head of cattle? |

BTW, I found this video to misrepresent the movement's ideals. | An economy built on gift exchange? Have you read Marcel Mauss' The Gift? Gift-giving as a mode of exchange is at LEAST as bitterly competitive, if not more so, than currency transactions. The scale of gifts and the choice of recipients is a medium for INTENSE status competition. If you have your essay posted somewhere, I'll take a look at it, but you'll have your work cut out for you to persuade me that this would be the key to a more peaceful and prosperous society.

Why should I help build your house or pay for one for myself when I can sit back and have someone give me one? I love the Amish and house raising, but it's not as rosy and loving as it sounds in Lancaster PA.
There was a lady on the news a few months back with 6 kids (and later determined not a US citizen) complaining that her free government paid for house (our taxes) that needed repair wasn't being replaced with a "nice enough" other FREE house. When asked who was paying for it and the utilities she said "No one." The reporter said..."Really? No one? I'm paying for it lady as are other taxpayers." It made me sick.
Anyone that assumes a world without money would even remotely be productive isn't in touch with reality. |

"MONEY CAUSES MISERY TO ANYONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH OF IT".
False!. The existence of money isnt causing any misery. Its the LACK of it which brings misery. Money is just a trading tool. If you take it away, something must replace it for any trade to take place. Earth Credits? World Duckets? i dunno...but there has to be something to measure an individuals wealth. Without it, the individual lacks motivation to be productive, and society will quickly collapse.
imo. |

GIVING it to those who don't earn it takes the INCENTIVE out of the equation. This allows those with no natural drive to just sit back and take. If you took money out of the equation, this would only make the problem of free loaders WORSE, not better. There will always be those who think they deserve whatever they need just because they woke up today.
Money is not, and never has been the problem. It is, and always has been lazy people. If everyone were greedy, everyone would work to get more. If everyone worked to get more, things would get done. Greedy isn't nearly as much of a drain on the system as lazy.

This is one of the first times I've ever seen money discussed without an argument breaking out that just turns into name calling. No "You dirty liberals!" or "You're just an ignorant bigot!" Or what about the classic "You're a left/right wing nutjob!"
I'm not sure what to make of this right now.... |

This guy (in the video link) is so incredibly disconnected from reality, its laughable.
It would be better presented in cartoon format, imo. | It is in cartoon format for the cartoon generation. Exemplified by each and every comment equating greed with people who have more. As opposed to aspiring to work as hard to get to the same place. They prefer to work as little as possible yet reap the same reward. (Social justice....LMFAO) Kind of like all those kids getting trophies just for participating. The video is perfect for the 2 most recent generations. Poorly researched, full of useless platitudes, and drowning in want for everything they are too lazy to achieve. |
