I'm not sure what to make of this right now.... | Well, to be perfectly honest, I was gonna. But Pacman put me in time-out for doing that very thing a while back. So to suppress the rage and anger, i made a silly joke about being given a Bugatti Veyron when everything becomes free. |

It's the nature of all living populations to expand exponentially until they run up against the limits of their environment. Being born into a world of abundance does occasionally happen in nature but this is always an unstable condition. Eventually the increasing population would consume all the abundance and this is followed by intense competition for what remains.
We "civilized" humans are no exception. Part of our modern life means we use money as a useful tool to keep track of our personal resources, but ultimately, we all compete with each other to see who gets what and to pass on our genes to the next generation at the expense of others.
This " us versus them" mentality is deeply ingrained in our nature and it shows clearly when we see how much effort goes into the act of accumulating money and wealth.

One can learn all that is needed about human nature by simply observing children. They don't have money, or an economy, but they do have stuff, that is free (to them).
Being constantly conditioned to play nice, share, be fair, etc. is the only thing that keeps them from turning into complete barbarians. When left to their own devices, they will simply slap the hell out of the next one and take their stuff. If that one gets mad (read "motivated") enough, they will beat the hell out of the first one, take back their own stuff and take all that kids stuff. These people will grow into adults who operate the same way.t
No matter how so-called "advanced" any society thinks it is, the phrase "we are never more than one generation away from barbarism" has always held true, holds true now, and always will.

No matter how so-called "advanced" any society thinks it is, the phrase "we are never more than one generation away from barbarism" has always held true, holds true now, and always will. | I happen to work with young kids(toddlers) and you'd surprised how civilized they act when they can all have the same toy. But any toy that happens to be in short supply is suddenly the most interesting and sought after toy and causes fights. Toddlers definitely understand limited quantity and novelty. I digress though. This thread has really outlived its usefulness. Out of curiosity has anyone actually read the charter and the FAQ that goes with it? I've never actually watched the video, it must suck based on most reactions to it. |

And to think someone had to PAY to to produce the video.
