World's most respected countries poll

Sign in to disble this ad
Here is an article I saw this morning, conducted by the Reputation Institute based in NY and abroad.

42,000 people around the world were asked to choose the country they think is the most respected world-wide.

Here's how it went, with the top ten countries listed:
10) The Netherlands
9) Austria
8) Finland
7) Denmark
6) Tie. Norway & New Zealand
4) Switzerland
3) Australia
2) Sweden
1) Canada

Here's a link:
World's most respected countries

What do you think? Do you agree with the order and/or countries listed?

I totally agree that Canada is the best, but then again I'm *slightly* biased.

Canada is awfully nice. I do agree that Switzerland, Sweden, Australia, and Norway certainly deserve to be on the list. Ah heck...they're all nice countries!

It's kind of funny when you think that numbers, 2, 6, 7 and 8 are Scandinavian countries, no?

The English, the English, the English are best
I wouldn't give tuppence for all of the rest
They argue with umpires
And cheer when they've won!
They practise beforehand
And spoil all the fun
Oh, the English, the English, the English are best
I wouldn't give tuppence for all of the rest

I have visited a few of those countries and they are all nations with mid-sized populations that are prosperous. They all have allowed a fair amount of diversity and have been pretty nice to immigrants. None are superpowers that intervene in other countries affairs. I can see why they would rate highly.

But none of those countries are charged with the responsibility of being the world's police force.

A tuppence is a coin - 2p, or £0.02. Two pennies.

It's also the nickname for - er - something else entirely.

It's either two pence (2/100 or like 2 cents), or a 19th Century metaphor for a lady's ladypart. I'm not sure which one works best in this context.

(edited: damn, those mods are fast)

I blame Finland's 8th place on being dicks about saving European bank investments in Greece..

And this seems like a nice lesson on how respect is reciprocal.

Ask people what countries they respect most, and they will answer with what countries respect people the most.

I shall keep my opinion to myself on this matter.
