At my new job there's a fair number of Asians, mostly Laotians and Vietnamese, and tonight one of the Asian girls offered me some candy from China. The wrapper is all in Chinese except for some English which says "Durian Candy". Now, I have no idea what it is, but I'm game for a challenge, so I tried it, and after about a minute I spit it out into the trash. I can't even describe the taste, except that it's the foulest, most evil-tasting candy I've ever tasted in my life. It took two full glasses of water to wash that taste out of my mouth! Have any of you learned TalkBass members ever heard of such a candy (and I hesitate to call it that!)?

"The smell evokes reactions from deep appreciation to intense disgust, and has been described variously as almonds, rotten onions, turpentine and gym socks. The odour has led to the fruit's banishment from certain hotels and public transportation in southeast Asia." |

So, that durian crud is probably worse than my personal vote for worst tasting candy I've ever had, which was bacon-flavored jelly beans. Yuck.

Most of their candies have mild flavour, and their pastries and cakes are definitely less sugary than their Safeway counterparts. I like it somewhere in between :9
I do enjoy durian. |

My first reaction was to ask if they'd put onion in my smoothie. They all laughed at me. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
