Is it worth me buying a ps2?

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, xmas has come and gone which means i have quite a bit of money, and i want to buy a games console, i was thinking either the nintendo DS or a PS2.

I would really like a PS2 as it has some of the later Final Fantasy games on it, aswell as dirge of cerberus which is a game i have wanted to play for aaaaaaaaaages.

The DS is also cool but its also more expensive.

Is it worth me buying a PS2 now that the PS3 is out?

I cant afford to buy a PS3 but the only consoles i have are a nintendo N64 and a PS1, they have done me untill now as i love really old games like mario 64 and other games for the PS1 but i think while i can i'll upgrade.

What do you think i should do?

Please only post if you have experience with either/both consoles.

Thanks.

If you want to play lots of good, inexpensive games with a tad old graphics, why not. I've been thinking about it myself. PS3 is 500 bucks and the games 60 bucks each. Sony's coming out with a even less expensive version (99 bucks I hear) of the PS2 Slim in a month or so, so hold your horses.

I bought a PS2 over the summer, with tonnes of cheap games. If you can get one cheaply I would go for it. I highly recommend Okami.

If you do get a DS, you can buy a DS M3 real, which will allow you to play, films, roms and music on it.

Now is the perfect time to buy a ps2. There are loads of good games, all of them for / soon to be for clearance prices.

I've heard it said (and I agree) that the PS2 is the best gaming system on the market in terms of value. It's not THAT dated, and it's uber-cheap, especially compared to the "current" consoles. It also carries the advantage of having been out long enough that you can find a lot of great games at discounted prices in either EB/GameStop used racks or Sony's Greatest Hits titles. Even though I've got a 360, I still use mine a lot.

Does anyone know if they will still be making new games for the PS2 for a while?

Meh. They're already starting to peter out, but just think of all the dozens of great games that are "new" to you.

If you want to keep getting the newest games, get one of the newest consoles.

It's only worth it if you're going to play Manhunt II.

I'd opt for a used PS2 or wait until they hit $99 [if that is true]. I did this very thing for about 2 weeks. I bought [used] a PS2 and [used] Guitar Hero II. I then proceeded to play the game until i got bored with it. Thankfully, due to buying everything used-i was able to return it within 30 days for a full refund.

Now, if i wanted to buy another gaming system and didn't want to buy a current Generation one [360, PS3, Wii]-PS2 would be my pick as i already have an Xbox. The variety of games out for the PS2 is quite expansive and [correct me if i'm wrong]-it's reverse compatible with PS1 games. Definately a lot of value out there for this system.

I also recommend getting one...it was a good system with good games and now they are pretty cheap. But dirge of cerberus was a horrible game...please dont waste your money or time with it...devil may cry(first one) was a better game if you want to experience the shooter/sword games.

I bought mine a long while back, basically just to get into the Grand Theft Auto series (and to upgrade the original PS). Never have I regretted it, even today I use it occasionally even though I've got an XBox360, too. Oh, yeah, and a Wii .

The DS would be tempting, too, as it seems pretty fun the little bit I've played it, but you'd have to weigh out your game time. If you're at home when you want to play, PS2 all the way.
