So I saw a mouse run from out of my cabinets to under my fridge tonight . What the hell am I paying my cat for?!?!?!?!? She seems to be too busy with her jam packed schedule of sleeping and giving us condescending looks to have any spare time to deal with the mice.

I will have have to have a little talk with her when she comes home tonight

It's gonna be all out commando tactics with this little rodent. Trip mines, chemical warfare the works..............

We had several mice in our attic. Since I didn't know exactly how many there were, I didn't use snap traps since I'd need to reset and reload them every day. Instead, I found an interesting mousetrap online that I ended up building myself out of home materials.

You need:

5 gallon plastic bucket
Dowel
Clay or nuts/bolts
Soda can
Peanut Butter
Anti-freeze
plank of wood

Drill two holes at the top of the plastic bucket, and in the soda can. Put dowel through it, with the soda can impaled on the dowel. Attach the clay or the nuts/bolts on each end of the dowel to prevent it from coming out. Fill the bucket about 1/5 full with anti-freeze. Coat the soda can in peanut butter. Set the trap where the mice are at, with the plank as a walkway leading to the top of the bucket.

The idea is that the mice try to get at the peanut butter, and when they jump onto the soda can it spins and drops them into the anti-freeze. The anti-freeze drowns them and preserves the carcasses so they don't stink. This trap can be used all season.

I plugged-in "getting a cat to catch mice" to ask.com and came up with this: tips

This was one of my favorites ...
Quote:
What I do is have my wife throw a fake mouse at me. When it
hits me i drop to the ground and shake and scream like im
under attack. My cat observes this behavior then goes out on
a killing spree. She has brought down 1232 mice, 83 moles, 18
rabbits and a small hedgehog this year.
Back in school, I had this wicked, all black cat with Siamese eyes that
loved mousing. I had a basement apartment a la' Laverne & Shirley so the
pest problem could have been bad. "Mephisto" especially liked torturing
roaches. She'd play hackey-sack with `em for a while then all you'd hear is
crunch...crunch...crunch. Only problem though, they gave her terrrible gas

all the cats i know have never killed mice. they just prefer to swat them around and torture them psychologically until the poor rodent begs for death.
kinda creepy.

Normally, I hate cats. But I had the king cat of baddassery when I was a kid. My cat caught mice like any other cat. But his specialty was birds. He would go outside and lie on the ground on his back. He wouldn't move at all...for hours sometimes. Birds would swoop in on him, thinking he was dead and would provide some nourishment. As soon as they got within reaching distance...BAM!! He would grab them right out of the air and roll over on top of them and bite into their necks, killing them instantly. I watched him do it hundreds of times. It was very methodical the way he did it. It was quite impressive. I would love to still have that cat.
