Howdy Friends,
I have recently just gotten into burning cd's and downloading music, I found a rare smashing pumpkins track that is in AVI format and I am looking to convert it to MP3. Could anyone help in this process ? Thanks, MAJOR METAL.

If so, should it not automatically ask you if you want to convert it

Whoops! I misread! .avi, huh? For that I use Soundforge to make it a wav then winlame to make it mp3.

I have several times tried some of the conversion software for turning a youtube video into an audio file but I couldent even figure that out, my technical skills in this area are lacking.

The instructions on how to use it can be found here: http://www.doom9.org/
Click on GUIDES on the left. On the GUIDES page, look for ">> Convert, Edit & Capture" and click on the link VIRTUAL DUB PROCEDURES. On the next page, find and click on "Extracting MP3 audio from an AVI". It's the fifth link down.
Hope that works for you.

It costs a few bucks but it also lets you extract audio directly from YouTube. It's been very useful for me.

As far as the instruction all you do is drag the file you want to convert and press what you want to convert it to. In your case mp3 |

Totally free, & converts almost any media file into any other media file.
Only downside is that it's Windoze only.

Try SUPER ( http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html) for any and all file conversion needs. It does audio and video and has like a million codecs built-in.
