Would you buy Bass Rocksmith?

There is a new game for Xbox 360/PS2 called Guitar Rocksmith. You hook up a real guitar to the game and your suppose to be able to learn how to play guitar from this game. My friend tells me the makers of the game are also making one for the bass. Would you buy it? Even if you already know how to play bass would you buy it for fun?

It's the same game with a downloadable extension for bass.
I might get it. I've heard some really good reviews of it and I'm a lousy guitarist so it could be very useful for me.

This game is actually pretty cool

I'm really enjoying this game. I am already a pretty good bassist.. but guitar's always been like Kryptonite to me.. and honestly it's really helping me build up the muscle memories and techniques and learning to not look at my fretboard when I play. I bought it just to see if it was as good as everyone says it is, and it's a whole lot of fun. It's not like guitar hero where it's the same every time. it starts off easy (for a beginner) and as you show the game you can play it, it gets harder til you're actually playing the entire song. there's also an "Amp" section that lets you custom make tones like amp modeling on a pedal or amplifier. Of course it's all Gibson guitars.. but it's still really fun. Oh and you can add pedals too and make whatever tones you want and preset them to your controller like you would a multi effects pedal.

when they add "bass" to it ... i can see myself purchasing this thing ...

think of it though ... it wouldn't be that hard... just program something to pick up the signal and read it ... it's just a bunch of math to figure out what note, how long it's held... etc .etc ...

yeah i'm over simplifying ... and i'm suprised it's taken this long.

I'd buy bass Jazzsmith or bass Funksmith but I can imagine those being much harder to market. Well, I'd buy Rocksmith too if it was something like 75% metal.

I'd give it a try, at least. If it makes me work harder because of worthless virtual gimmicks, why not?

I've got it and so far I'm enjoying it. I've also noticed that my pickstyle play is improving fairly rapidly.

I picked it up over the weekend for $50 at GameStop, seeing that there will be a bass add-on in early 2012 that will open up the bass options in the game so I said why not, I'll simply get an SX guitar an to play around with it until then - doesn't hurt to learn a little guitar to go along with my bass playing and the timing/pick playing/muscle memory parts of the game and other things are transferable to bass playing which may help my bass playing!!!

Okay, here's my opinion from being an bass player exclusively who's never even touched a guitar for more than a minute or two not even mention trying to play one. To start I decided to bump up and not go totally cheap on a first (and probably only guitar - the lady of the house already shakes her head at my nine basses LOL) but wasn't looking to spend over $200 so I didn't get an SX guitar but picked up a nice Douglas Hadron which is a pretty nice guitar but seems soooo tiny compared to all my basses, my Ibanez Mikro which i though was petite looks huge and obese compared to this guitar LOL. Being that this is my entry into trying to play guitar after playing only basses I thought it would put an interesting perspective into the learning process to try it with a video game to accompany self teaching along with what skills I already have on bass. So after tinkering with the guitar a bit and trying to get used to the frets and small string spacing I put in the game to give it a shot:

After my first day of giving this game a shot there definitely needs to be a bass version made or the DLC for bass mode released soon!!!! So far I think it's a great game and the training will definitely help and is pretty cool, seeing that I already play bass a lot of the starting songs and techniques were extremely easy but the game adjusts to your playing ability so after the third venue it seems to have ramped up the difficulty pretty fast and bringing in more guitar specific techniques which was pretty cool to see that they will throw in or take out stuff on the fly according to if your playing with ease or struggling the extras such as the learning games and technique mode is very helpful and I could see this bringing a very valuable bass learning tool if done on the same caliber to help people learn methods - not theory mind you but for what it provides it provides very well.

So so far I think it's a pretty good learning tool more than it is a game - The video game elements are there but the game is truly focused on actually teaching and improving guitar method, which in turn works with bass playing (sans the string spacing and narrower frets that I have to get used to along with using a pick, I still keep finding myself dropping the pick and just going at it with my fingers and doing a lot better lol). From where everyone looked at RockBand and Guitar hero as toys this is on a whole different league, after playing this you could actually go out and play real music on real instruments. I am really looking forward to the bass options and parts being released for it to test my skills on bass with it until then it's pretty nice to get a grasp on the melody side of things to compliment my bass playing addiction !!!

There are enough people in this world who play guitar. It should not be easier for more people to start learning

I do not appreciate the competition haha

Unfortunately, it looks like the PC version has been pushed back until May according to the Rocksmith forums and now Gamestop's preorder page.

And there's a segment that believes it's now officially vaporware and not coming out for PC at all.

I'd been waiting for this for PC because I wanted to get it for my 11 yr old who's started playing guitar, but I'm eagerly awaiting the bass dlc as something to do while I'm between playing arrangements with actual people.

Why not. I would get it for my wife who wants to learn guitar and I would just mess around on it.
