| | | | Would you buy your wife a gun for Christmas?

We've been married for 34 years and it's increasingly difficult buying my wife a Christmas present. She has everything.
She's been working late this year, often returning home after 10:00 pm. She's a traveling social worker so has to travel into people's homes, sometimes in the poorer neighborhoods. I worry about her when the days get shorter.
I bought a pistol for her today. A small gun with a slug the size of a .38's but with half the casing. Has a six shot clip.
I'd like to begin going to the range and shooting with her. I own a .38 but have never fired it. I look at it like a hobby for both of us but do wonder if she should begin carrying it. She's 60 and I'm 62.
My son thinks that it's an inappropriate Christmas gift. What are people's thought's about it? |

| | | | Sounds kind of weird. Has she said she wants a gun?

The cat's left eye is gone. It was looking right at me when it died... I fired a warning shot. It did not flee, but instead turned and growled at me....second shot was not a warning.(I am not in the habit of missing)
Fish & game was pissed, but not a lot they could do.

The gun thing is more like "Honey, I was hoping you'd have a minute to sit down with me and talk about something" and then if she is receptive, you go with her to the gun store and you let her pick out a gun that she likes. I realize you've already bought the thing, but honestly I'd take it back and get store credit, and let her pick it out. Or if she says she is open to owning a gun, but doesn't want to pick it out, then you can go back and get the same one. |

Get her some pepper spray or maybe a stun gun?

The Red Ryder can now be had with a pink stock and forearm.

| | | | Seems okay to me,
My question is why the hell would you buy her useless crap like jewelry as the commercials say you should?
