Would you buy your wife a gun for Christmas?

Sign in to disble this ad
We've been married for 34 years and it's increasingly difficult buying my wife a Christmas present. She has everything.

She's been working late this year, often returning home after 10:00 pm. She's a traveling social worker so has to travel into people's homes, sometimes in the poorer neighborhoods. I worry about her when the days get shorter.

I bought a pistol for her today. A small gun with a slug the size of a .38's but with half the casing. Has a six shot clip.

I'd like to begin going to the range and shooting with her. I own a .38 but have never fired it. I look at it like a hobby for both of us but do wonder if she should begin carrying it. She's 60 and I'm 62.

My son thinks that it's an inappropriate Christmas gift. What are people's thought's about it?

Unless she likes guns I'd think it'd be a weird gift to give her for Christmas.

Sounds kind of weird. Has she said she wants a gun?

YES...I think a gun is a great gift for a wife..... because I shot this off my deck last Christmas eve morning, and I have had bear in my yard since then....look carefully. The cat's left eye is gone. It was looking right at me when it died... I fired a warning shot. It did not flee, but instead turned and growled at me....second shot was not a warning.(I am not in the habit of missing)

Fish & game was pissed, but not a lot they could do.

I wouldn't give it as an Xmas gift. For that, give her something pleasant and sweet with no creepy baggage.

The gun thing is more like "Honey, I was hoping you'd have a minute to sit down with me and talk about something" and then if she is receptive, you go with her to the gun store and you let her pick out a gun that she likes. I realize you've already bought the thing, but honestly I'd take it back and get store credit, and let her pick it out. Or if she says she is open to owning a gun, but doesn't want to pick it out, then you can go back and get the same one.

Sure I'd buy her an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle.

As hobby, that actually sounds pretty cool but as a weapon to be used in self defense I'd say no unless she went to some sort of class. Get her some pepper spray or maybe a stun gun?

Don't remember where I saw it, but it's been in the last few weeks.

The Red Ryder can now be had with a pink stock and forearm.

Very weird gift. Are you offering it to her because she is interested in having a gun, or because you want her to have one?

Seems okay to me,
My question is why the hell would you buy her useless crap like jewelry as the commercials say you should?

This at least has a thread of thought put into it.
