Would you pay extra on shipping for early evening delivery?

I know I would.

"Dear Sir:

We attempted to deliver your package today between 9 AM and 4 PM, but for some inexplicable reason you weren't at home during this time window.

Since today must have been a fluke, we'll try and deliver your package again on the next business day between 9 AM and 4 PM. If THAT doesn't work, we'll try again the NEXT business day. If we still can't reach you, you can drive your ass to one of our sorting centers and pick it up yourself."

The best the british postal service do is let you choose to collect your package/parcel from your local post office (mine is a 90 second walk away) but they still charge for that £1.50 normally i think. im surprised more delivery companies dont offer a evening delivery option

The British regular post (small stuff) take it back to the sorting office, where you can collect it (no charge). You can call to arrange re-delivery, or have it DELIVERED to a local post office (for which there is a nominal charge). The sorting office could be a few miles away, but rarely much further if you're in a town.

Parcel-Force usually take undelivered stuff straight to the local postoffice (actually about the same distance in our case! about 10 mins walk) - again no charge.

Most other delivery services DO have an evening/weekend option, which they charge more for. Seems usefull and fair. I wouldn't use/need it - but I can see lots of people would find it usefull and if you want your delivery guy to work late, then paying his overtime is reasonable.

Yes, absolutely.

In the past the UPS guy that does the deliveris in my area has been pretty good about this sort of thing. If he misses me with the regular 8-5 delivery window one day he usually tries again the next day some time after 5.

I woul pay the extra for having a package delivered when it was convienant for me. Generally I have stuff shipped to work so I know someone can receive the package.
