Would your opinion of MarkBass change if.......

One day Marco De Virgiliis decided the company wasn't making enough money and to "save the brand" they started production in China?

Just a question.

In todays market, anything can happen.

I voted no: the manufacturing plant location of a product I'm not going to buy is irrelevent.

Nope. I'm still not crazy about them.

It would fully dependant on whether they maintained the quality. China's manufacturing ability is certainly improving, so maybe.

If they still sold it for the (very fair as it is now) same price as it is now but it was much easier/cheaper for them to make it in China, I'd be soured.

Ampeg's prices seemed to have raised since the China move. ***

I was pretty soured when Taylor moved the Taylor Baby and Big Baby plant to Mexico and kept the prices the same. The prices are still amazing for a solid top guitar, but it was nicer when it was that price for a US made solid top guitar.

Any company that cuts corners to save cost and doesn't pass at least some of it onto the customer, is not cool. Not saying they should pass all the savings on, but at least a significant amount to make it worth OUR while too.

If they're moving a plant to Mexico to save money, what are they going to gain by dropping the price? That would be pretty counterproductive.

The original Baby plant took over production of the T5 when they came out with it, so they had to move the Baby's elsewhere. They moved them to Mexico. I don't know about you, but the price between a US Fender and a Mexican Fender is dramatically different. And although Taylor keeps their quality control top notch compared to either, it should have some difference in price.

Build quality and sound are all that really matters to me. The location of the plant is not important.

The location of a company has no bearing on it's quality.

It's how the company itself implements it's quality tools and practices in the country in question that matters.

Chinese people aren't people who are so retarded they can't put something together properly. It's all about the company not the country not the people.

It's not the country of manufacture that worries me. It's the move. As stated, companies usually move production facilities to save money. Great. As long as the product quality stays where it was or improves, you won't see me complaining. The problem is that a move to save money is usually accompanied by other measures to save money which tend to lead to a dip in quality. So, if I were in the market and MB moved production anywhere else....I'd wait about a year to see what turned up.

Mike

As long as the price points remained fair, and the quality remained good I would be onboard. The foreign made MTD's are top notch because Mike has a say in the build. If Marc did the same I think it would be all good.
