Alabama sure felt it today. 50 dead and counting. They are saying this my be the worst tornado outbreak in recorded history. The Tornado that devastated Tuscaloosa entered the state at the Mississippi state line, crossed the entire state, and was still killing people in Georgia.ABC 33/40 - Birmingham News, Weather, Sports - Home

I hope all our TBers to the north are safe and their loved ones are accounted for. One friend who lives in LA rents-out her home in Birmingham, and has already posted on Facebook that it was destroyed, but the residents were safe. My dad will be getting it east of Atlanta in another hour or so, so this will be a restless night for me until I hear from him.

My little town sits in a hole that seems to get bypassed by tornadoes, but a couple of places nearby have been flattened with several dead. Details are still emerging.

Sorry, really not trying to offend anyone here, but the title of this thread made me think...

Anyone else think its peculiar that the part of the US known as the "Bible Belt" also seems to be the same area known as "Tornado Alley?"

I'll leave it at that.

Tornado Alley is usually considered to be the midsection of the country, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. Long track tornados like the ones seen today are unusual in the southeast. We have short lived ones, but usually far fewer than we saw today. And I don't think the Bible Belt nickname is real accurate either. There are plenty of people of all religious stripes here, as there are in most areas. TV does a good job of perpetuating inaccurate stereotypes.

This is terrible news, I didn't know the storms had taken such a toll today. Prayers and good thoughts for the folks affected by this.

Gotcha toaster, sorry for my ignorance. Though I gotta say that after moving out here the amount of actual dedicated christians does seem to be higher than back home in Nor-Cal ime so far. I've been called out a few times out here for wearing my Bad Religion band tee out here, where back home it was never really an issue.

I aplologize for de-railment, just a random thought.

Interesting how the usa is one of the only remaining civilized countries still debating climate change as scientific fact.
I feel for those poor folks in the middle of this.

No politics. And please don't try to hijack the thread. If you feel the need to discuss climate change please start another thread. Thanks.

Lol, though in our defense, I met a cute girl out here that had no idea that California shared a border with Mexico, and shes a fairly smart chick getting ready for college.

It has nothing to do with politics, not meant that way whatsoever. Neither is it a hijack. This is an obvious environmental issue.
My apologies if that's not clear.
And i'm very concerned for the people involved in the mess.

We had golf ball sized hail falling here for a good ten minutes. A lot of cars were damaged. No word if any people got caught up in it yet. Here's hoping no one did.

Dalton?

I'm sitting at my desk now waiting to find out whether or not I'm going to Alabama to help get the lights back on.

The existence of climate change is a fact and not a political issue. The debate surrounding the cause of the change is the political issue.
