the x factor

bored today, I 'm watching an episode of The X Factor on tv while I get some work done.

man, there are some weirdos in that show!

but there are also so many talented singers, and the editing of the show, I'm a man, but I'm not afraid to say I almost cry a couple of times!

I got to see that burrito guy that went with his mom to the audition, looked like a total looser, and man can he sing!
there's also this 14 year old girl... wow what a voice! a justin bieber fan she says, took one of justin's songs and made a beautiful song out of it...

My guilty pleasure. Loved it for years. Be interested to see if it takes off over there...initial reports seem very mixed.

I'm sick of these programs.

But we have a few of them, not just one

I just wish they would do a show like it only with bands, not just singers.

that would be cool, but really I don't think it would appeal to the masses.

Whenever I see these kind of shows, I just have to wonder, are all those freaks and geeks really like that normally, or are they just posing to be on tv?

+1.

I'd rather screw light bulbs into my eye sockets tbh, can't be doing with them at all.

I'm sick of it. At least Simon Cowell's gone. Although, the live auditions make the program lose an element of enjoyment from it.
I don't bother with it anymore.
PS Gary Barlow's voice makes me want to fall asleep.

Love him or hate him, Cowell is a sharp dude. Apart from his Tory leanings, Gary Barlow is pretty cool. But then Take That ate another of my guilty pleasures...

If I thought there'd be enough interest, if start a Strictly Come Dancing thread

You'd have the industry bring back numetal?

Pop music and rap don't utilize instruments, blues, jazz, rock, heavy metal, country/western, and just about anything as firmly established as those genres aren't considered "current" or "pop culture", and alternative/indie and poppunk type stuff has too small of a market.

So we're left with instrument-ized rap and pop, which = numetal. *shudder*

well, really if you think of it, we should be glad, because the more music shows on tv, the more work for musicians.

House bands are always top drawer. The Strictly Come Dancing house band are dynamite.

On the shows for a select few yes, and some backing tracks of course, which then get copied, distributed and sold on. But the trickle down effect doesn't really help the wider gigging/working community of musicians in the long run. With bars and venues switching over from live bands just to pay much less for a karaoke.

Saying that I don't mind it at the right time, right place, if I'm full to the brim with ale that is, and only then

well I see what you mean, but I don't think the situation in karaoke bars has anything to do with what's on tv. So having music shows on tv does help gigging musicians, it gets them booked on tv.

For those shows dude, only a few of the upper echelons of the session scene benefit. The trickle down effect of the shows is that everyone thinks they can pull it off, thus the bad karaoke, thus the bar owner only having to pay one fella incentive.
