XBox 360 -- what game next?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been neglecting my poor xbox, and I have some major 'catching up' to do with my gaming. A while ago I finished Gears of War 2 (amazing), Mirrors Edge, and Prototype. Now I need a new game or two and could use some suggestions. I'm not into sports games at all, but am open to just about anything else. Some that I have been considering:

Portal 2 (should I play Portal 1 first, or should jump straight into 2?)
GTA4
Modern Warfare
WET (played the demo, and it seemed interesting)
LA Noir
Mass Effect (should I start with 1?)
Bioshock (played a little bit of the first one, definitely enjoyed it!)
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Star Wars?

Any suggestions? Rave reviews?

I just got an XBOX 360 last week. Currently I am hooked on NFS: Undercover. I bought five NFS games total, and they are really cheap since they are old.

Can't go wrong with either of the Fallout games, and if you like fighting games I've been addicted to Marvel vs Capcom 3 for awhile now.

I don't like puzzle games, but I had a chance to play Portal and Portal 2 and I really enjoyed both. The writing is excellent and it's very funny.

Good to know, thanks. I was contemplating buying them.

+1 on Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

LA Noir is fun, but I would wait and buy it used (not as open world as GTA). If you want to rampage, GTA4 is great. Be sure to get the expansions TBOGT and TLAD. Red Dead Redemption is also good, it's like GTA meets the Old West. The Zombie expansion is awesome, and online play is still going strong.

Borderlands is also one worth checking out.

They're definitely worth a buy. They remind me of old school games in the sense that they're actually challenging and require some thought. The writing and story are also really good.

Forgot to mention, I don't care for online gameplay at all. I typically play the campaign / main storyline and then that's it. I like a good story!

+1

It's a really fun game, but it's not something you come home to and play to relax with. It's a real gamer's game, if that makes sense.

The two Portal games are no-brainers. Valve won a character design award for a character you don't see, that's how good it is

Well in that case,

GTA4
Bioshock 1 and 2
LA Noire
Halo 1 and 2 (might as well since they can be had for dirt cheap)
Portal 1 and 2

Those games should last you a few months worth of casual play. I would NOT suggest any of the Modern Warfare games. Their single player campaign is about as dull as it gets for someone who wants a good story that will last them more than 5 hours worth of play time.

Never played it myself but I've heard Mass Effect 1/2 are pretty cool. Also if you like lots of looting and killing a-la Diablo, Borderlands is a great game.

Oh, I've done Halo 1 and 2 also. Haven't done 3 yet.

Thanks for the suggestions all!

Crysis 2 is one of the nicest looking, innovative and fun games i've played all year.

Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood are fantastic games.

I've put a zillion hours into Dragon Age 2 recently- I've replayed it probably six times now.

If you're in it for the story

1. Bioshock 1
2. Mass Effect 1
3. Fallout III
4. Fable I & III
5. Mass Effect II
6. Bioshock II
7. Arkham Asylum

From what I've heard, LA Noire is good, but I can't say as I haven't played it. I have played all of the above, in pretty close to the order listed, and they were all amazing. Bioshock 1 and Mass Effect 1 are two of my favorite video games ever. Excellent story in those 2.
