Sign in to disble this ad
My kids have an older playstation2 but they are requesting a new platform for Christmas. The 12 yr old wants the xBox 360 the 9 & 11 yr olds want a wii. Any suggestions/advice? Which is better? Which has better games? The wii seems to have a lot of peripheral devices for all the different games so that could get expensive. |

The Xbox 360 would be better if it's a passtime thing when the kids are hanging out by themselves. Xbox has better games for "gaming", wii is better as entertainment and group fun.
If you don't have a blu-ray player yet and want one, the PS3 has pretty much the same games as the xbox 360 at this point and has a built in blu-ray player for the same price.
The wii also allows you to download/purchase games from NES, Sega genesis, SNES, N64 etc for between five and ten dollars a game.
Sorry if this stuff confuses you more than helps you, I'm going through the same thing right now myself and am trying to choose between wii and PS3. I'm probably going to end up with both because I really can't choose.

Also it has wireless net connection included rather than the $100 option for 360 and the controller has a built in rechargable battery included which 360 does not.
The icing on the cake? 360 has the worst failure rate in the history of home gaming consoles.

I own both of the wii and 360, I'd say the wii will allow all you kids to have fun, while the 360 will only allow the 12yrs old to get some. The wii will also most likely make you play with your children and make them play together, which I doubt would happen with a 360 which is more of a "gamer" console. |

I say go the 360. My cousins are about the age of your kids and they love the thing. They love it so much that they have two, one for each kid so that they dont fight haha.
Sure, the Wii has more appropriate games but this generation of consoles is set to last a couple of years yet and your kids will get sick of the really terrible games pretty quickly.
On the other hand the 360 has way better games but like someone else said a lot are meant for an older age group, but not all. Your kids will be able to grow into an Xbox 360.
On a side note. Make sure that you know someone who has a Wii because they are fun to play on occasion with friends, just not on a regular basis. |

The icing on the cake? 360 has the worst failure rate in the history of home gaming consoles. | You have to also remember that NONE of his kids requested a PS3, the online play is garbage compared to the 360s and who wants their kid playing online anyway with all the 20+ years olds that are on there... I'm sure that will be fun for them |

Also, the rule of majority says you should get the Wii, as two children claiming you ruined xmas is much worse than one.

He is 7. He has begged me for a Wii and has several friends that has them. So I am buying him one for christmas. The 360 is for me, and the Wii is for the kids (and me I love mario!)

The 360 is focused more on older teenagers and young men. The 360's best games are all violent, shooters and a lot of them are based on online multiplayers. (I'd never want my kids playing online with some of the idiots on the XBL).
The Wii can at least keep the kids happy, playing games together, moving around and playing with dad and mom. The Wii is accessible to everyone.

I actually got sore, playing the thing. I just got the new Super Mario World, on Thursday. I didn't play it until today. What a fun game! Similar to the old SNES game, but better! I feel Nintendo thumb coming on... lol!
Almost forgot: Do yourself a favor and get the rechargeable controller kit. The controllers are wireless and will eat your batteries quicker than you'd like. I still have a SNES that works.
